As a lifelong Marvel fan with a soft spot for iconic art and childhood nostalgia, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming Wave 2 of McFarlane Toys‘ Marvel collaboration! Growing up, I devoured every issue of Spider-Man, Hulk, Wolverine, Captain America, and more, so seeing these characters brought to life in such intricate detail is a dream come true.
In May, Todd McFarlane unveiled the initial collaboration between McFarlane Toys and Marvel exclusively to ComicBook, which commenced in July with posable figures or statues in scales of 1:10 and 1:6. These collectibles were inspired by renowned Marvel cover art from artists such as Jim Lee, Steve Ditko, John Romita Jr., Rob Liefeld, and Todd McFarlane himself. Wave 2 is scheduled to debut on October 10th at 9am PT / 12pm ET, available here at Entertainment Earth and here on Amazon. McFarlane mentioned, “You understand, right? I have a special fondness for some friends I’ve known since childhood. In the initial series, I plan to acknowledge Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld. They both played significant roles during our time, and each of us left an indelible mark in unique ways.
McFarlane expressed his intention to acknowledge those who greatly inspired him, George Perez and John Byrne, but he also recognized a new generation that may not be familiar with these artists. Instead, he mentioned, they are currently admiring different individuals in the field, both interior and cover artists. He intends to consider their preferences when recognizing and supporting them.
