MCU Blade Rumors Says the Movie May Be Scrapped (but That May Not Be the End)

It seems like there’s some uncertainty about the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming Blade reboot. Contrary to some rumors, Chad Stahelski, director of John Wick, will not be involved in the project. Instead, creative plans for Blade have undergone a significant change and the movie has reportedly been put on hold. However, Mahershala Ali is still set to play the character within the Marvel franchise. The situation echoes that of the Nova TV series, which was once in development but is now on hold by Marvel. This doesn’t necessarily mean the end for Blade; it could potentially be revived at a later stage.

The cancellation of the “Blade” project doesn’t imply that Marvel is letting go of the character, Ali. Instead, according to @YrOnlyHope, Marvel might introduce Blade in a different venture, such as the rumored “Midnight Sons” or “Avengers: Secret Wars.” They also hinted at the possibility of Blade taking on a supporting role in a movie, similar to how Namor appeared in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” Take a look at the Twitter discussion below for more details.

I’ve come across some buzz about Blade, but consider it as unconfirmed information for the time being. Feel free to treat it as a rumor and take it with a pinch of salt if you prefer. I’m fine either way.

Since 2019, when Blade was initially unveiled at Marvel’s Comic-Con panel in San Diego, the project has encountered significant delays in development. The film has cycled through multiple directors and screenwriters, indicating that Marvel Studios have faced challenges in shaping the story. As a result of these complications, Blade has been removed from Disney’s release schedule, leaving fans impatiently awaiting updates on its progress. Actor Michael B. Jordan, who is set to star as Blade, has also expressed his growing frustration over the project’s indefinite hold.

Despite the various twists and turns, Ali has consistently maintained an affinity for the character Blade, although he hasn’t portrayed him on-screen thus far. In a voiceover cameo, he made an appearance after the credits in Eternals. Meanwhile, Wesley Snipes successfully reappeared as Blade in the critically acclaimed supporting role of last summer’s Deadpool & Wolverine. His performance has sparked speculation among fans, leading some to suggest that Snipes should continue his role within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Given that Wesley Snipes played the lead in the Blade movie trilogy from the late 90s to the mid-2000s, it’s surprising that Marvel Studios has faced so many issues with this reboot. Constructing a dynamic action film around an actor as gifted as Snipes seems like it should be fairly straightforward. If rumors are true and Blade is indeed being cancelled, it would be very disappointing after years of excitement and anticipation. Although it’s unfortunate that Snipes might not get his own film, fans can at least find comfort in the possibility that Marvel won’t exclude him entirely. A supporting role in another character’s movie could turn out to be beneficial for the MCU’s Blade. If Snipes’ portrayal becomes popular like Black Panther or Spider-Man (who made their debut in Captain America: Civil War), it could pave the way for Blade to return. As disappointing as it is that Blade is being shelved (temporarily), it would be worse if the character were completely absent from the MCU.

It seems that Blade doesn’t seem to fit organically within the rest of the Multiverse Saga, which means fans might need to be patient until after the event of Avengers: Secret Wars. As Marvel prepares for the confrontation with Doctor Doom and juggles multiple characters slated for appearance in Avengers: Doomsday, there simply isn’t room to incorporate Blade at this time. Given his significance, it would be ideal for him to have a standout role in a film, either as the main character or supporting, and when he does finally appear, let’s hope it will be worth the wait.
