Meet Caroline Waldegrave: The New Bake Off Judge Replacing Prue Leith!

The Great Celebrity Bake Off is back, and there is a brand new face headed into the tent.

This upcoming season, Caroline Waldegrave takes over from Prue Leith. However, Prue Leith will rejoin the civilians’ series later in the year.

Together with Paul Hollywood, Waldegrave will observe the celebrities as they demonstrate their baking talents in a bid to collect funds for Stand Up to Cancer.

But who is Caroline Waldegrave? Read on to learn more about the new Bake Off judge.

Who is Caroline Waldegrave?

Caroline Waldegrave currently serves as the head of operations at Leiths School of Food and Wine, while previously holding the position of principal of the culinary institution from 1975 until 2002.

Beyond being recognized as Lady Waldegrave of North Hill, Caroline is equally renowned for her collaboration on several culinary books. Notable among these are “The Leiths Cookery Bible”, “Leiths Cooking for One or Two”, “Leiths Easy Dinner Parties”, and “Leiths Seasonal Bible”.

In relation to her upcoming role as a judge on the show, Waldegrave confessed that she was “thoroughly nervous” or simply put, “extremely anxious.

She shared with Channel 4: “Upon my arrival, I found myself at the assigned shepherd’s hut, and there were welcoming banners and flowers outside. This warm reception was a reflection of Love Productions throughout. From the staff to Paul himself, everyone displayed kindness and friendliness, which helped me feel at ease.

Waldegrave has always been a fan of Bake Off and “couldn’t believe” she was going to do it.

In her own words, she shared that she enjoyed watching people bake on screen, but what truly captivated her was the friendly and kind-hearted nature of the competition itself.

Waldegrave added: “The bakers appear to get along well with each other and the team does as well, creating a truly unique friendly competition. This is quite extraordinary. Not only has it significantly influenced the country’s culinary scene, but it has also sparked a great deal of interest in baking due to its exceptional management.

As a devoted cinephile, I’d say, “Cooking is something many can dabble in, especially when it comes to whipping up a tasty stew, instinct often takes the lead. However, baking is a different beast altogether. To bake a perfect loaf or pastry, precision and following the recipe are key. But fear not, if you can stick to the plan, you’ll find success. My friends and I run our own little culinary academy, and let me tell you, we’re always discussing ‘The Great British Bake Off’. We’re all hooked on it!
