This summer, DC Comics is fully immersed in the “Summer of Superman,” and they’re not holding back with their latest releases. Not only does Superman have a new comic series, but Krypto has his own limited series, and Supergirl is back leading her solo ongoing story once more. It’s an exciting time for Super Family fans, especially considering the impressive direction of these releases so far. There are already numerous intriguing concepts emerging, but one of the most amusing new ideas surfaced in Supergirl #1 – introducing a brand-new, flawless villain tailored for Supergirl: Princess Shark. DC has introduced this captivating character, and I’m already smitten with her!
Who is Princess Shark?
In the inaugural issue of the latest Supergirl series, the character known as Princess Shark made her debut. This towering anthropomorphic shark woman seems to be about eight feet tall, similar to characters like Orca or King Shark. Her attire is an intriguing choice – a dress fashioned from what appears to be torn remnants of an octopus. The style is undeniably striking. Upon introduction, Princess Shark was engaged in executing her scheme to transform Metropolis into Sharkopolis, a city ruled by sharks. It’s speculated that this underwater dominion could eventually expand to the entire world. Initiating this aquatic uprising, she was dropping sharks from the sky.
I can’t express how amusing it is to imagine sharks, seemingly out of place, cascading onto Metropolis streets. They seem bewildered by their circumstances, and since they’re not equipped to navigate city life, they end up causing some chaos on the roads and cars, but that’s more a side effect than intentional. Essentially, these sharks are being dropped from above, leaving them powerless to alter their situation. It’s as if a low-budget version of Sharknado found its way into the DC Universe, and for that, I’ll always be grateful to Princess Shark. The absurdity of this scenario harks back to the Silver Age comics in an enjoyable fashion.
In essence, Princess Shark, a humorous and endearing DC villain, appears for just two pages. Supergirl swiftly handles her situation, then deposits her back into the ocean, far from Metropolis’ shore. The remaining sharks displaced unwillingly are returned to their natural habitat. As Supergirl departed, Princess Shark vowed revenge against her, which implies that we might encounter more of this charming antagonist soon.
Princess Shark is Perfect
The entire scheme devised by the whimsical villain, Princess Shark, involved an outlandish method of scattering sharks across Metropolis, which she somehow could manage. Her intention was to fill the city with ordinary sharks, seemingly expecting this bizarre plan to succeed without a hitch. There’s something delightful about Princess Shark, as she embodies the ideal of a nonsensical, yet endearing, throwaway villain. Her strategy is so absurd and grandiose that it adds an entertaining twist to her actions. It’s the kind of humor that requires you to turn off your critical thinking, which is a fundamental aspect of comic books – a genre that often overlooks its freedom to be silly and peculiar. Characters like Princess Shark remind us why we should embrace the absurd and create characters that may sound ridiculous to anyone older than twelve. Princess Shark is truly remarkable!
Additionally, she shares a unique connection to the larger mythos of the Super Family’s rogues gallery. For instance, with a name like Princess Shark, she recalls the fan-favorite character King Shark, initially an adversary of Superboy. Being the offspring of the Shark God, King Shark possessed magical abilities that allowed him to harm his Kryptonian foe. Aside from being related to the Shark God, what else could grant you the power to capture sharks and transform them into airborne troops? Essentially, Princess Shark is an exciting new villain who strikes the perfect balance of being both absurdly fun and cool, and I eagerly anticipate seeing more of her in the future.
