Megalopolis Trailer Pulled by Lionsgate After “Inexcusable Error”

As a seasoned cinephile who’s had the pleasure of witnessing the evolution of cinema from black and white reels to digital masterpieces, I must say that the recent fiasco surrounding Francis Ford Coppola’s upcoming epic, Megalopolis, has certainly piqued my interest. The trailer’s opening with supposedly scathing reviews from legendary film critics like Pauline Kael and Roger Ebert was a bold move, to say the least. However, when I found out that those quotes were fabricated, I couldn’t help but chuckle at the audacity of it all.

Despite Francis Ford Coppola’s movie “Megalopolis” not being released yet, it has already sparked plenty of discussion, particularly with its recent trailer. This trailer started a buzz when it seemed to display critic quotes from films like “The Godfather” and “Apocalypse Now,” but upon closer inspection, these quotes were discovered to be fabricated, originally attributed to renowned film critics such as Pauline Kael and Roger Ebert. Soon after the release of the new “Megalopolis” trailer, its distributor Lionsgate acknowledged their mistake and decided to withdraw the trailer entirely, expressing regret to both the misquoted critics and Coppola himself.

Lionsgate has quickly pulled their trailer for the movie, Megalopolis. According to a spokesperson, they extend their deepest apologies to the critics who were affected and to Francis Ford Coppola and American Zoetrope due to an unforgivable oversight during their review process. In short, they made a mistake, and they are truly sorry.

What Is Megalopolis About?

As a gamer immersed in the world of Megalopolis, I find myself in a city reminiscent of ancient Rome, yet set against the backdrop of modern-day America. I’m caught in a power struggle between Cesar Catilina, a visionary artist yearning for a utopian future, and Mayor Franklyn Cicero, who clings to the old ways, fostering corruption, self-interest, and political strife. Julia Cicero, the mayor’s daughter, is also torn between her love for Cesar and loyalty to her father, leading her on a journey to uncover her true convictions about what humanity truly deserves.

education, mental health, or other solutions. The film suggests that utopia isn’t a specific place; rather, it’s about continually striving for improvement. Each year, consider developing two, three, or four ideas that can make things better.

“If I were still alive, I’d find it delightful if such an event transpired, for people often delve into the deeper meanings of movies when given the chance. If we sparked conversations about topics like marriage, education, health, justice, opportunities, and freedom – subjects that humans have pondered throughout history – and encouraged them to strive for improvement, I believe they would indeed make it even better.”

Who Is in the Cast of Megalopolis?

The principal cast for the movie Megalopolis features Adam Driver portraying Cesar Catilina, Giancarlo Esposito taking on the role of Mayor Franklyn Cicero, Nathalie Emmanuel as Julia Cicero, Aubrey Plaza as Wow Platinum, Shia LaBeouf as Clodio Pulcher, Jon Voight as Hamilton Crassus III, Jason Schwartzman playing Jason Zanderz, Talia Shire as Constance Crassus Catilina, Grace VanderWaal as Vesta Sweetwater, Laurence Fishburne as Fundi Romaine, Kathryn Hunter as Teresa Cicero, and Dustin Hoffman in the part of Nush “The Fixer” Berman.

In an interview this year, the driver explained that the concept was somewhat intangible, seeming quite vague until one watches the film. However, after seeing it, his description would be spot-on. There aren’t many examples of something similar and its grandness on a large scale is truly remarkable, which sets it apart from other works.

Megalopolis will be released exclusively in theaters on Friday, September 27th.
