Meghan Markle is looking back at a heartbreaking chapter in her story.
In a heartfelt disclosure, Meghan Markle, who is mother to Archie (age 5) and Lilibet (age 3) alongside Prince Harry, discussed the emotional turmoil she experienced following a miscarriage in July 2020.
Meghan, aged 42, expressed to Reshma Saujani on her “Confessions of a Female Founder” podcast on April 15, “I’ve discussed the miscarriage we encountered. I believe there’s a similar lesson in letting go—when you must disconnect from something that held so much potential and hope, only to find a way to be at peace with relinquishing it, something you intended to cherish for a long time.
Back in November 2020, the founder of As Ever openly shared her deep sorrow and unendurable sadness, which arose after the miscarriage of her and Prince Harry’s baby several months earlier.
As I held my newborn baby tightly,” she penned in her op-ed for the New York Times, “I felt the crushing realization that I was about to lose my second child.
In 2018, the couple tied the knot and later welcomed their daughter Lilibet in June 2021. Two years after experiencing a personal tragedy, Harry, aged 40, disclosed that he believed his wife had suffered a miscarriage as a result of the constant media scrutiny, particularly naming The Daily Mail for publishing a private letter she wrote to her father, Thomas Markle.
According to the Duke of Sussex, as mentioned in the recently aired Harry & Meghan documentary in December 2022, he believes his wife experienced a miscarriage due to some actions taken by The Mail. He confirmed this by stating that he had seen the entire documentary.
On her end, Meghan has lately disclosed details about her personal challenges with maternal health, having experienced postpartum preeclampsia following the delivery of one of her babies.
Meghan expressed on her podcast on April 8th that it’s both uncommon and terrifying. She’s also struggling to manage various responsibilities while keeping private matters hidden from the public eye. In this quiet, she continues to be there for people, but mainly for her children. These private struggles are significant health concerns.

In response to Sky News in 2015 regarding the possibility of him settling down due to his niece Princess Charlotte’s birth, he expressed that such decisions aren’t something one can rush. He believes it will occur when the time is right. Despite his current desire to have children, he acknowledged that there’s a sequence of events one must navigate through first.
In years past, Meghan Markle also made a thoughtful purchase with her future daughter in mind. She shared with Hello! magazine in 2015 that she had long admired the Cartier French Tank watch. Once she learned that Suits was renewed for our third season – an achievement she considered significant at the time – she decided to treat herself and bought the two-tone version of the watch. She had it engraved with the message, “To M.M. From M.M.”, intending to present it to her daughter in the future.
The topic of fatherhood, much like marriage, has been a recurring theme for Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana’s younger son, not long ago. In an interview with People magazine in May 2016, he expressed, “At times during life, particularly on foreign tours, I find myself thinking, ‘I’d love to have children now.’ But then there are instances when I step back and think, ‘Maybe not right now.’ There’s no pressure. Honestly, there have been moments that made me hesitant about having kids.
2017 saw the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announcing their engagement and granting their initial joint interview. Predictably, the subject of potential children was broached. “Absolutely,” Prince Harry remarked then, with a hint that we take things one step at a time, and hopefully, we’ll begin our family soon.” Meghan smiled beside him during this conversation.
Meghan expressed it as magical when she became a mother after Archie’s birth. It’s truly incredible, she added, because I have the two greatest men in my life. So, I’m incredibly happy.
After Archie’s birth in May 2019, Harry expressed, “This experience has been more incredible than I could ever imagine. I can’t fathom how women go through what they do, but we’re both overjoyed and deeply grateful for the love and support from everyone. It’s been an amazing journey, so we wanted to share our happiness with all of you.
As a lifestyle expert reflecting on my journey as a parent, I was deeply moved during my speech at the National Youth Mentoring Summit in 2019. I couldn’t help but notice the profound impact of subtle role models around us. It struck me that there might be someone here today who doesn’t realize they are being watched, and for them, I serve as a guiding light encouraging kindness, improvement, growth, success, and making an impact.
Being a father has given me a newfound clarity – my son is always observing me, learning from my actions, and perhaps one day emulating my path.
In 2020, during a public appearance, Prince Harry expressed that our dear one is our topmost concern. However, after attending to him, our work assumes the second priority. We’re simply doing all we can to contribute and aid in making the world a more amiable environment.
Harry and Meghan discovered a positive aspect during the coronavirus pandemic by spending more time with their son, Archie. As Meghan expressed in October 2020, they are grateful for this opportunity to witness his growth since traveling and working externally would have kept them away from many precious moments. Consequently, they’ve enjoyed a great deal of quality family time together.
Harry mentioned, “Both of us witnessed Archie taking his initial steps, his very first run, his first stumble, every significant moment.
In May 2021, Meghan appeared seldom on television during Global Citizen’s VAX Live: The Concert to Reunite the World special. During this occasion, the ex-actress spoke candidly about her pregnancy and expressed her happiness about having a daughter. She stated, “My partner and I are eagerly looking forward to welcoming our daughter soon. This joy is shared by countless other families worldwide.” Reflecting on their child, she emphasized the importance of empowering young women and girls globally to take the lead.
She stated, “The course of their future leadership is influenced significantly by the choices we make and the steps we take today, ensuring a prosperous, fair, and empathetic tomorrow, not just for them, but for everyone as well.
In a short appearance, Meghan is featured in her husband’s Apple TV+ series titled “The Me You Can’t See” alongside Oprah. During this episode, the resident of California appears to honor her expanding family by wearing a shirt that carries the message, “Nurturing Tomorrow.
On June 4th, their little girl was born to the couple. They expressed their joy on their Archewell Foundation page saying, “Our hearts are overflowing as we introduce our daughter, Lili, who is more wonderful than we ever dreamed. We’re deeply touched by the love and blessings we’ve received from all over the world. Thank you for your continued compassion and support during this extraordinary time in our family’s life.
On June 8th, 2021, Meghan is set to publish her debut children’s book titled “The Bench“. This book offers a unique perspective on fatherhood as seen through a mother’s eyes. In a statement released in May, she explained that the story originated from a poem she wrote for her husband on Father’s Day, just a month after their son Archie was born, which later evolved into this narrative.
In a letter penned to House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Chuck Schumer dated October 2021, Meghan expressed her joy but also her feeling of being overwhelmed upon the birth of her daughter during a time when the pandemic had disrupted regular operations in hospitals, schools, and other establishments.
Just like many other parents, we were fortunate not to face the difficult decision of either staying with our newborn during those crucial initial months or returning to work. We had the option to bring our baby home, allowing us to dedicate all our time and resources to our children and family during this important and significant phase. This choice spared us from having to make heart-wrenching decisions about childcare, employment, and healthcare that numerous families must confront daily.
Meghan went on to say, “No family ought to be compelled to confront such choices. Every family deserves the option to balance work and caring for a family member, whether that’s a child, relative, or themselves – something that a thorough paid leave policy would ensure.
In the month of April 2022, as reported on TODAY, Harry found it extremely difficult to distinguish between his parenting duties and his work-from-home schedule.
Archie interrupts our Zoom meetings more frequently than anyone else, it seems,” he noted, adding, “he tends to do this quite regularly too, which is somewhat peculiar but not unwelcome.
Harry observed that his son was starting to display a similar wit and playfulness, traits he himself possessed. “I strive to maintain this quality,” he said. “I believe that a touch of mischief helps keep one’s spirit vibrant.
Meghan admitted she was concerned for her—and everybody else’s—kids in the age of social media.
During the Archewell Foundation Parents’ Summit on World Mental Health Day in October 2023, she expressed that being a mother holds the greatest significance in her life, second only to being Harry’s wife.
She continued, “I should mention, I consider ourselves lucky since our kids are still quite young, meaning we don’t have to confront these changes immediately. However, I must admit, I find myself worried about the ongoing transformations as they will inevitably be part of our future.
As a parent, Meghan pointed out that time seems to pass quickly (“the years are short”), yet each day can stretch on (“the days are long”). Reflecting this sentiment, she expressed concern about how everyone is impacted by the digital realm and social media, emphasizing our shared desire for safety in these spaces.
During a visit to Lightway Academy in Abuja, Nigeria in May 2024, Meghan explained to a group of kindergarteners that our daughter, Lili, is very small compared to all of you. Lili is almost 3 years old now, and just recently she looked at me and saw her own reflection in my eyes. She said, “Mama, I see myself in you.
In response, Meghan stated, “She spoke quite literally then, but I interpreted her words in a unique manner. And I couldn’t help but think, ‘Indeed, I recognize myself in you, and vice versa.’
