Mel Brooks returns to film making…….at 99 years old!

As a devoted movie enthusiast, I’d like to share my excitement about the return of a comedy legend – Mel Brooks! Known as the pioneer of edgy humor before the likes of Trey Parker & Matt Stone, the Farrelly brothers, and the Zuckers, it’s incredible that at 99 years old, he’s diving back into filmmaking. Remarkably, his upcoming project is a sequel to one of his iconic films, Spaceballs, which first graced our screens in 1987. And It’s truly a testament to his timeless creativity and passion for filmmaking.

In this new take on Star Wars, Mel Brooks reprises his role as the character Yogurt, similar to Yoda. The movie, which features Josh Gad in the lead role, is yet to announce additional cast members. Known as “A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two with Reboot Elements and Franchise Expansion,” the plot details are currently under wraps. Josh Greenbaum, director of “Will & Harper,” will be at the helm, while Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Gad have penned the script for this upcoming film.

As a passionate cinephile, I can’t help but marvel at the remarkable career of Mel Brooks. He is undeniably one of cinema’s great comic writer-directors and performers, with his masterpiece “The Producers” (1967) earning him an Oscar – a testament to his versatility as he is one of the elite EGOT winners (Emmy, Golden Globe, Oscar, Tony).

The 1970s were particularly fruitful for Brooks, with a string of box office successes that solidified his reputation. His works, such as “Blazing Saddles” (a hilarious western parody), “Young Frankenstein” (a side-splitting take on classic monster films), “Silent Movie” (an ingenious silent film featuring the renowned mime artist Marcel Marceau), and “High Anxiety” (a clever Hitchcockian spoof of “Psycho,” “The Birds,” and more) continue to hold their own against contemporary comedies, and it’s safe to say that he laid the groundwork for future comic writers and directors.

Spaceballs 2 will be released under the Amazon MGM banner
