Mercury Prize nominations 2024: Full list of nominees

As a seasoned music critic with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen countless Mercury Prize shortlists come and go, but this year’s list is truly a breath of fresh air. Having attended numerous live performances at the Hammersmith Apollo during past Mercury Prize ceremonies, it’s disappointing to learn that this year’s event will be held without an audience.

The nominees for the Mercury Prize 2024, who have advanced to the next round, have been announced. Among them are Charli XCX, The Last Dinner Party, and Cat Burns, among others.

On Thursday morning (25th July), Tom Ravenscroft revealed on BBC Radio 6 Music the much-awaited list of the twelve best albums of the year.

As a music enthusiast who has been following the British and Irish music scene for years, I am thrilled to share that the annual award for the best album from this region during the past 12 months is an event I eagerly look forward to. The eligibility period for this prestigious recognition covers records released between 15th July 2023 and 12th July 2024. Having attended numerous live performances, read countless reviews, and engaged in passionate discussions with fellow music lovers, I am excited to see which album will be crowned the best of the year. This award is a testament to the rich talent that exists within the British and Irish music community, and I can’t wait to witness the magic unfold.

Charli XCX, a popular male singer among boys who was nominated for an award in 2020, has earned a spot on the list with her latest album, “Brat.” Released just last month, this is Charli’s sixth studio project and has rapidly gained cultural significance, igniting a fresh trend on social media.

Cat Burns and The Last Dinner Party received nominations for the albums “Early Twenties” and “Prelude to Ecstasy,” respectively.

Others who made the cut include Corinne Bailey Rae (Black Rainbows), BERWYN (Who Am I) and English Teacher (This Could Be Texas).

The overall winner of the 2024 Mercury Prize will be announced in September.

Last year, the prize was won by Ezra Collective for their album Where I’m Meant to Be.
