Met Gala 2005: Jessica Simpson, Tom Brady & Shocking Celebrity Looks You Forgot

2005 was a year unlike any other.

Over the span of a year, Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore tied the knot, Destiny’s Child disbanded permanently, and Tom Cruise expressed his enthusiasm for his new relationship with Katie Holmes by leaping onto Oprah Winfrey’s couch.

Additionally, the Metropolitan Museum of Art held its annual event, the Met Gala, themed around “Chanel’s House.” This year was unique as it was the first time the gala took place on the well-known first Monday of May.

Even twenty years ago the Met Gala was, as always, a star-studded affair.

At this gathering were present Jessica Simpson, who was soon to divorce Nick Lachey, as well as Vanessa Lachey (formerly Minnillo), who would later marry Nick six years down the line. Jessica chose a black sweetheart neckline dress adorned with red roses, while Vanessa opted for a strapless, figure-hugging red dress embellished with flowers.

Not at the event? Nick himself.

In a previous gathering I recall, there was a duo who graced the event but have since parted ways – Tom Brady and Bridget Moynahan. At that time, they were barely a year into their relationship. Tom donned a timeless black tuxedo with a bowtie, while Bridget chose a shimmering silver gown to complement his elegance.

The duo who graced the Gala together and have stood the trials of many years was none other than actress Mariska Hargitay and her spouse Peter Hermann. This pair marked their first wedding anniversary in 2005.

Compared to the bold and unique ensembles we’ve grown accustomed to at the Met Gala more recently, outfits from twenty years ago were generally more subdued and traditional.

In a sea of styles, it was none other than Karolina Kurkova who truly stole the show at the gala event. She graced the red carpet wearing an exquisite, one-shoulder white gown that boldly declared “I love you” in vibrant red script on its front. As a lifestyle connoisseur, I must say this look was indeed a breath of fresh air and a testament to her unique sense of style.

At the same gathering, the esteemed fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld was in attendance. From 1983 until his passing in 2019, he served as Chanel’s creative director. Remarkably, four years following his death, he would be posthumously celebrated at the Met Gala when the topic “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” was unveiled for the 2023 event, despite some debate surrounding it.
