POV: When celebrities are at the 2025 Met Gala.
Despite the fact that using phones is strongly discouraged at this year’s exclusive fashion event themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” with a dress code of “Tailored for You,” held within New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5, many attendees found themselves snapping a few pictures with their personal devices once they entered the venue. At an event, Megan Thee Stallion managed to sneak a photo with a group of stars that included Angel Reese and Doechii during their dinner together.
Megan’s Instagram-named “Hottie Cam” featured clips of the WNBA star, artist, and “DENIAL IS A RIVER” creator sampling caviar cornbread, lobster rolls, and various hors d’oeuvres. In another instance from her video, Megan, aged 30, humorously commented, “We shouldn’t have our phones,” as Tracee Ellis Ross playfully instructed her to “put it away.
Inside the event, the famous rapper from Texas, known as “Bigger in Texas”, interacted with Angela Bassett, Serena Williams, and Ciara during filming.
At a filming session, the well-known Texan rapper, often called “Bigger in Texas”, had an encounter with Angela Bassett, Serena Williams, and Ciara.
Simultaneously, Questlove was seen with several notable figures such as Cynthia Erivo, Ayo Edebiri, Tracee Ellis Ross, Brian Tyree Henry, Evan Ross, among others, in a group selfie shared on Instagram from a bathroom setting.
Before taking a picture filled with celebrities inside the bustling restroom, the drummer from The Roots prompted everyone to say “Black Power” as a tribute to the evening’s motif. As the stars acknowledged the request with knowing grins, they streamed out of the bathroom in laughter following the photo shoot.
Besides challenging conventions, Halle Bailey was spotted taking a selfie with actress Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in ‘White Lotus’, as well as Lisa.
Over a decade ago at the 2015 Met Gala, organizers strictly forbade guests from taking their own photographs. However, it appears that the strict “No Selfies” rule has become more relaxed in recent years. In fact, even the museum bathroom has transformed into an unexpected photo opportunity, with celebrities like Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian, Billie Eilish, and Halle Bailey breaking the policy by snapping mirror selfies despite it.
Previously, Lizzo elevated her TikTok dance sessions by collaborating with Uma Thurman and fashion designer Stella McCartney within a restroom. To underscore the iconic status of this location during the Met Gala, the “Pretty Hurts” artist casually captioned it as “Met Restroom.
Anna Wintour, who serves as the lead chair for the Met Gala, is unlikely to participate in the custom of rule-bending traditions like taking selfies. In fact, she made it clear in a 2014 video for Vogue that she has never taken a selfie and has no plans to start doing so now.
In fact, the 75-year-old is not a fan of phones on Met Gala night—period.
In 2016, Sylvana Ward Durrett, a former Vogue staffer, described Anna as someone who leans towards traditional values. She enjoys social gatherings where individuals engage in face-to-face conversations instead of being engrossed in their devices.
When Anna observes folks using their phones at the Met Gala, Sylvana explained, “We don’t intrude by peering over their shoulders, but if it’s quite noticeable, we might discreetly suggest they pay attention instead.

At the event, the star of The Little Mermaid took a break from her no-selfie policy and snapped a photo with the actress from Euphoria and White Lotus by her side, flashing her signature smile for the camera!
Angela Bassett skillfully seized the rare opportunity to be among the group at the Met Gala, immortalizing a one-of-a-kind moment. Although she doesn’t use social media, this photograph stands as undeniable evidence of their enjoyable time together.
Ahmad Ahmad, a member of The Roots band, urged everyone to exclaim “Black Power,” while they all posed for an iconic (and previously taboo) photo inside the bathroom. Celebrities like Tracee Ellis Ross, Evan Ross, Brian Tyree Henry, Cynthia Erivo, and others happily participated in this joyous moment.
Megan Thee Stallion decided to break the rules by bringing her camera to the event, where she secretly took photos of high-profile stars with her “Hottie Cam”, catching them sampling the appetizers.
I can’t help but marvel at what I recently witnessed! I, a die-hard fan, had the pleasure of observing none other than the WNBA superstar and the renowned rapper gracing Megan Thee Stallion’s Met Gala “Hottie Cam” as the main attractions. Simply unforgettable!
