Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Dev Explains Decision to Not Update Original Secret Theater Videos

In the face of numerous adjustments in “Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater,” Konami is making efforts to maintain the original’s appeal in several aspects. This is evident through the inclusion of a vintage filter and Classic control mode, while keeping the script intact. Yet, there’s an additional feature called Secret Theater, which presents amusing outcomes for certain cutscenes, injecting a dose of humor.

During the Konami Press Start extended preview, it was disclosed that the graphics remain similar to the original version. The developers have added new Secret Theater videos with a modern style, but why not update the older ones too? In the most recent Metal Gear – Production Hotline, creative producer Yuji Korekado explained that this decision came from the cutscene director.

The creator of the initial videos remains active and has taken on the role of cutscene director for “Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.” He believes that the humor is more effective with the original visuals. Consequently, he decided that if we were to employ modern graphics, it would be more appropriate to produce new videos, albeit fewer in number. As a result, we chose to preserve the existing scenes and create some fresh ones using the updated graphics.

Enemies may occasionally drop Secret Theater videos as rare finds for players, but the exact amount that will be added isn’t specified.

The game titled “Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater” will be available globally starting August 28th. You can find the specific release times for different regions on this link for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
