Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Producer Explains Why it Won’t be Dubbed “A Hideo Kojima Game”

As a dedicated fan of Metal Gear Solid series who has spent countless hours navigating through the dense jungles of Shadow Moses, sneaking past guards and deciphering cryptic codec conversations, I find the approach Konami is taking with the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater particularly intriguing. The decision to maintain the original development team’s credit instead of listing the current one seems like a thoughtful gesture, acknowledging the legacy of the game’s creation while respecting the contributions of those who worked on it in the past.

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t wait to dive into “Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater” for numerous compelling reasons. The fact that it marks the first major release in the franchise since the legendary creator, Hideo Kojima, parted ways with Konami definitely piques my interest. However, unlike the original “Metal Gear Solid 3”, this remake won’t carry the label of being a ‘Hideo Kojima Game’. Konami’s Noriaki Okamura, the series’ lead producer, has shed light on why this is the case.

In the latest ‘Production Hotline’ video uploaded by Konami on YouTube, Okamura discussed credit handling for the upcoming remake, mentioning that they will explicitly acknowledge and list the original game’s development team in the credits.

Okamura clarified that there was much debate among the team about how to handle the credits, but they quickly agreed on one point – the names would remain unchanged, keeping it the original staff. The question then arose, “How do we proceed?” They considered using the original credits from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, but also had to think about how the original team might react. For example, if they altered the credits, would those left out feel slighted? Conversely, some might question why they were being credited for work they didn’t do. To address these concerns, it was decided that the appropriate course of action would be to credit people as ‘Original Programmer’, ‘Original so-and-so’. Listing them in this manner seemed most suitable.

Okamura affirmed that Metal Gear Solid Delta will deviate from the original’s opening statement “A Hideo Kojima Game,” instead opting for “Based on Metal Gear Solid 3” since Kojima isn’t overseeing the remake. Okamura further pointed out that similar Metal Gear titles directed by him, not Kojima, also didn’t begin with the mentioned statement, like Portable Ops.

In the case of “Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater”, you’ll find that it doesn’t carry the usual opening, ‘A Hideo Kojima Game’. This is because games not personally directed by Mr. Kojima do not bear this tagline. I wanted to clarify this point for everyone. For example, I took charge of some “Metal Gear” titles like “Portable Ops” or the Digital Graphic Novel, so they don’t have that introduction. Similarly, “Ghost Babel” was handled by another producer, and it also doesn’t include this line. Therefore, when it comes to “Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater”, we opted to follow the established practice.

In the same video, Okamura also pondered if the upcoming “Metal Gear Solid Delta” remake might be excessively true-to-form, and he verified that the entire game can now be played smoothly from beginning to end without any issues.

As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement! The legendary stealth action game, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, is being crafted for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Get ready to experience it firsthand at TGS, happening later this month!
