Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 Confirmed, Release Date Still Far Away

As a seasoned gamer who’s grown up with the stealth-action mastery of Solid Snake, hearing about the upcoming “Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2” fills me with both anticipation and trepidation. I remember the thrill of sneaking through shadows in the original Metal Gear Solid back in ’98, the tension-filled moments in MGS2, and the breathtaking open-world gameplay of MGS3.

Konami has officially announced that they are working on the sequel to the “Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection.” This collection, released in 2023 as Volume 1, offered updated versions of “Metal Gear Solid,” “Metal Gear Solid 2,” and “Metal Gear Solid 3” for modern gaming platforms for the first time. Since then, fans have been eagerly speculating about what a follow-up to this Metal Gear compilation might entail. Although specifics are yet to be revealed, we now have confirmation that Konami is currently engaged in developing this project.

In the latest episode of “Metal Gear Production Hotline,” Konami producer Noriaki Okamura confirmed that the development of “Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2” is underway. While Okamura didn’t specify which Metal Gear games will be part of this collection, he hinted that this project might prove more challenging than its predecessor because games like “MGS 2” and “MGS 3” have already been given HD upgrades in the past, making them simpler to adapt for modern hardware. This complexity could potentially cause a slight delay in the game’s release compared to fans’ expectations.

As an ardent fan, I’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy HD remasters of Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3. Regrettably, only the sequels received this treatment; Metal Gear Solid 1 was left out in the cold. Unfortunately, most titles that followed didn’t have a pre-existing HD version we could leverage. Some games are in high definition, but those would be major titles, which come with their own set of challenges. Given the complexity of our lineup, it’s going to take some time before we can provide definitive answers to questions like, ‘What’s in store?’ or ‘How long will development take? When can we expect a release?’ So, while I eagerly anticipate updates, patience is key.

“Of course, we called the first one Vol. 1, so we are making a Vol. 2, that much is for sure,” he continued. “We’re also worried about how Vol. 1 had a pretty rough launch, with all the issues, so we’re going to do everything we can not to repeat that. We just have to ask for everyone to give us time. And, you know… I feel like I can already see the comments. We’re probably getting blasted with, ‘You didn’t answer squat!’ But I just kind of want to say, even if we can’t share much, we still want to check in with everyone.”

The good news is that even if Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 doesn’t release for quite some time, Metal Gear fans shouldn’t be without anything new to play. A new remake of MGS 3, dubbed Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, is on the horizon. A launch date for the remake hasn’t been revealed just yet, but it seems likely to arrive in 2025.
