Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Gameplay Showcases Quality Mode, Boss Battle, and Mouse Controls on Switch 2

During its Treehouse: Live stream event, Nintendo demonstrated a sneak peek of “Metroid Prime 4: Beyond” running on the upcoming Switch 2 model. In Quality Mode, this gameplay was showcased in stunning 4K resolution at an impressive 60 frames per second. The demonstration started with the Galactic Federation engaging in a fierce battle against the Space Pirates to protect a valuable artifact from falling into the wrong hands.

Samus needs to reach that location ahead of Sylux, who’s working alongside the Pirates. Many elements from the original Metroid Prime game are retained, including scanning, comprehensive 3D maps, morphing into a Morph Ball for navigating through narrow spaces and risky areas, lock-on targeting for precise enemy attacks using charged shots and missiles.

On the Switch 2, a significant upgrade comes in the form of mouse control, offering improved precision when aiming at targets. By laying the Joy-Con 2 flat, you can effortlessly switch between standard controls and enable mouse functionality.

In the heat of the game, I faced off against Aberax for the first time, but a stray Metroid caused it to transform. This meant I had to strategize and focus on its various weak spots. With adrenaline pumping, I utilized a swift double jump and Morph Ball roll to dodge those powerful shockwaves. Finally, with a sigh of relief, I managed to take Aberax down. Just as I thought it was over, Sylux entered the scene and accidentally fired upon an artifact, setting off a chain reaction. Little did we know, this mishap would ultimately grant me my new Psychic Powers.
