Metroid Prime 4 Rumor Teases Release on Nintendo Switch 2

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and impatience at the latest rumors surrounding Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Seven long years since its initial announcement, and now we hear whispers of it gracing not just our current Switch consoles, but also the yet-to-be-revealed Switch 2.

A recent rumor hints that the forthcoming “Metroid Prime 4: Beyond” might not only be available on the current Nintendo Switch but also on a future Nintendo Switch 2 console. Previously, we had our first glimpse of “Metroid Prime 4” earlier this year after its announcement in 2017. The game’s trailer concluded with a promise of its release in 2025 for Nintendo Switch systems. However, if this latest rumor proves true, it looks like the next Metroid Prime game might also be playable on the successor to the Nintendo Switch.

The gossip about Metroid Prime 4 potentially being a launch title for the Switch 2 originates from Samus Hunter, a reliable Nintendo insider. On platform X, Samus Hunter subtly suggested that Metroid Prime 4 might debut alongside the Switch 2. Additionally, it was hinted that a remastered version of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes could be released for the original Switch prior to the arrival of Metroid Prime 4. However, no further details were given regarding these releases.

It’s quite possible that even if Metroid Prime 4 is initially designed for the potential Nintendo Switch 2, it doesn’t mean the game won’t also be playable on the original Nintendo Switch. Historically, Nintendo has released cross-generation games, and since they’re aiming to bring MP4 to the current Switch, it’s highly likely that a release on the future Switch 2 wouldn’t interfere with their plans for the existing console.

Even though Nintendo has promised a release for Metroid Prime 4 in 2025, no specific date or timeframe within this year has been given yet. Since Nintendo typically announces new titles in their annual February Direct, it’s likely that we’ll get more information about Metroid Prime 4 then. If there’s a Switch 2 reveal event earlier than expected, as some rumors suggest, it’s quite possible that Metroid Prime 4 will be showcased again during this presentation.
