Michael Strahan Wants to Replace “Grandpa” Title With This Unique Name

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for family dynamics and a soft spot for heartwarming stories, I find myself deeply moved by Michael Strahan‘s journey into grandparenthood. While he might be hesitant to embrace the traditional title, his excitement and pride are palpable. His unique approach to finding a fitting nickname is endearing, and I can’t help but chuckle at the thought of him as “Gap-pa.

Michael Strahan is embracing being a grandpa, but doesn’t exactly want to be called one.

The co-host of Good Morning America, who recently became a first-time grandfather when his oldest daughter Tanita Strahan welcomed a baby boy named Onyx on September 22, shared his reason for not wanting to go by the conventional title as he takes on this new phase in life.

The 52-year-old expressed, “It’s such an incredible sensation as I don’t seem old enough,” during his visit to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show on September 23. “People keep asking me what they should call me, and I’m not sure. I almost want to conduct a poll.

Instead of going by “Papa,” Strahan jokingly proposed they call him “Gap-pa” as a playful reference to his distinctive gap-toothed smile.

While Michael tests the waters on the moniker, he’s enjoying this new chapter with his family.

The ex-NFL star expressed immense joy for his daughter Tanita and her partner, Calenta [Mincey],” he enthused, further stating that baby Onyx is a “wonderful new member of our family.

Michael, who has Tanita (aged 32) and Michael Strahan Jr. (aged 31), both from his previous marriage with Wanda Hutchins, as well as 19-year-old twins Isabella Strahan and Sophia Strahan from his relationship with Jean Muggli, announced the arrival of a new family member during the broadcast on September 22, Fox NFL Sunday.

He shared, “It’s truly unique because I realize each of you has experienced this,” addressing his fellow hosts who are all grandfathers. “I’m simply delighted to now share in this special club with you.

The TV host has spoken about his children, including Tanita, on occasion.

In 2013, he shared with “New York Family” that she is somewhat similar to him in having a powerful personality, yet one that’s more reserved. He explained that she won’t be the type to dominate a room or draw attention to herself. However, she has her own thoughts, is intelligent, and knows what she desires – qualities he admires about her.

Speaking about Isabella, who made her brain cancer diagnosis public in January, Michael has consistently lauded her resilience during her treatment process. In a heartfelt Instagram post in June, he referred to her as a “superwoman” as she completed her last round of chemotherapy.

He penned that his daughter persists bravely, flashing a smile even amidst struggles, demonstrating resilience, and she has overcome cancer. Indeed, I couldn’t be more pleased as her Father!
