As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for historical dramas and a soft spot for tales of immigration, I must say that the return of BBC’s Ten Pound Poms is music to my ears! Having delved into the rich history of various cultures through cinema, I can appreciate the depth and authenticity that this series brings.

For some time, we’ve been aware that BBC’s “Ten Pound Poms” is coming back for a second season. Now, we can catch a glimpse of what the second episode will bring, along with the actors reprising their roles and some fresh faces joining the cast.

In the upcoming series, it’s Michelle Keegan who once again takes on the starring role as character Kate Thorne. Additionally, Faye Marsay and Warren Brown are back to play Annie and Terry in their respective roles.

Now, you get a glimpse into what lies ahead for their characters, as they embark on more exciting journeys in the land below.

In one image, we see a glamorous-looking Kate at a kiosk but seeming preoccupied looking at something out-of-shot.

A different photo captures her laughing, perhaps on a date with Robbie from Nick English’s group, as they seem quite affectionate together.

In another location, Robbie, Kate, Annie, and Terry are found on a hilltop, their faces expressing various emotions as they gaze upon the landscape before them. Perhaps they are formulating a plan or contemplating something significant.

For season 2, the official summary goes like this: “After a tough initial year in Australia, season two delves into the lives of nurse Kate Thorne (Michelle Keegan) and the Roberts family, led by Faye Marsay and Warren Brown, as they embark on their journey through 1957, each striving against all obstacles to claim their piece of the Australian dream.

In their new beginnings, Kate, Annie, and Terry grapple with reconciling the dreams of the lives they expected with the challenging truths they encounter in Galgownie.

In the upcoming season, we’ll meet the Skinner family, immigrants from Ireland eagerly settling into their Australian life under the sun. Additionally, there’s Benny Bates, a questionable landlord who extends an appealing proposition to Terry in his quest to establish a home for his loved ones.

For the second season, we have several familiar faces joining the cast once more. Rob Collins from Mystery Road will be playing Ron, Leon Ford known for Elvis takes on Bill, Declan Coyle of Long Black portrays Stevie, Stephen Curry from Hounds Of Love appears as JJ, Hattie Hook of Savage River is Pattie, Finn Treacy from The Portable Door plays Peter, Emma Hamilton recognized for The Tudors will be Sheila, and Cheree Cassidy, known for Underbelly, takes on the role of Marlene.

Although the specific launch date for the second season of Ten Pound Poms hasn’t been revealed yet, it is confirmed that it will air on BBC One and iPlayer in the year 2025.

Once more, it’s the latest season that has been crafted and penned by Danny Brocklehurst, a BAFTA winner, who has a long-standing partnership with Keegan. They have previously collaborated on Fool Me Once and Brassic.

Upon hearing about the second season of Ten Pound Poms, its writer, creator, and executive producer Brocklehurst expressed: “The warm reception from viewers was genuinely heartening. We unearthed a lesser-known slice of our recent past and spun tales that mirrored the authentic experiences of those actual Poms who made the journey.

I’m absolutely ecstatic to collaborate once more with the BBC, Stan, and Eleven for another exciting journey of our characters in Australia.
