Michelle Obama is giving back.
On the day of Donald Trump’s inauguration as President, the former First Lady was not present in Washington D.C. with her husband, President Barack Obama. Instead, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were transferring power to Trump and his new Vice President, J.D. Vance.
This year, Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday and the inauguration both fall on the same days, and I, a devoted admirer, am fixated on honoring that occasion!
On Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, this post is a tribute to the Reverend’s inspiring spirit of service that has always moved me. I encourage everyone to join me and @WhenWeAllVote today in celebrating Dr. King’s life and legacy by actively participating in community activities.

In my fervor, I eagerly posted the powerful artwork Michelle shared – a poignant depiction of the esteemed late activist, accompanied by her profound words, “The time is always right to do what is right.
Although Michelle didn’t get the chance to meet President Carter in person, she still paid tribute to him and his legacy. In a joint statement after his passing, Michelle and her partner expressed their admiration for the former president, stating that he showed them what it means to live a life characterized by grace, dignity, justice, and service. Their thoughts and prayers went out to the Carter family as well as everyone who knew and learned from this extraordinary individual.
However, during Michelle’s absence from the Inauguration, several members of Donald’s family and advisors stood with him instead.
Among the Trumps, Donald was accompanied by his wife Melania Trump, their son Barron Trump, his daughters Ivanka Trump and Tiffany Trump (who came with her husband Michael Boulos), as well as Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr.
I had the privilege of being among an esteemed gathering, where tech titans like myself were present – Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jeff Bezos. The political sphere was also well-represented, with figures such as New York City Mayor Eric Adams, former President George W. Bush along with his wife Laura Bush, and the Clintons – Bill and Hillary Clinton. It was truly an honor to share space with these influential individuals.

Prior to her speech, Minnesota senator Amy Klobuchar served as the one who organized events for Biden and Trump ahead of their departure from the White House. Regarding her role as chair of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, she expressed that although there are significant disagreements in policy matters, her primary focus was to ensure a smooth execution of the ceremony.
Present at the event were some past presidents and their spouses, including: Bill Clinton, his wife Hillary Clinton, George W. Bush, and Laura Bush.
With wife Michelle Obama not attending, former president Barack Obama hung with the Bushes.
New York City mayor Eric Adams worked the room at the Capitol.
Legendary Canadian hockey player Wayne Gretzky and his spouse, Janet Jones, chose to experience the inauguration as spectators.
