Michigan's Alma Cooper Wins Miss USA 2024

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for resilience and determination, I am absolutely thrilled to see Alma Cooper crowned as Miss USA 2024. Her journey from being an active duty military officer and a graduate of the United States Military Academy to becoming a Masters student at Stanford University in statistics is nothing short of inspiring.

A new pageant queen has been crowned.

In the Burbank, California event on August 4, Alma Cooper from Michigan was crowned Miss USA 2024 after the 73rd annual competition took place.

22-year-old Alma serves as an active duty Army officer and a graduate of the United States Military Academy. She made history by being the first military officer to win the title of Miss Michigan, where she holds the positions of second lieutenant and military intelligence officer. This accomplished woman, who identifies as a “proud Afro-Latina,” is currently pursuing her Masters degree in statistics at Stanford University.

In her Miss USA profile, Alma expressed a desire to highlight the issue of food insecurity. Her ambition, as stated, is to ensure that nutritious meals are accessible for everyone.

At the yearly event, it came down to Alma and Connor Perry in the competition. Connor, a dancer by profession with a background in neuroscience, ended up being the first runner-up. The other finalists were Macy Hudson from Ohio, Christell Foote from Tennessee, Danika Christopherson from Oklahoma.

51 contestants representing each of the 50 U.S. states and Washington D.C. gathered for a competition spanning various stages, including interviews, evening wear, and swimwear showcases, at the Peacock Theater.

Following a challenging year for the Miss USA organization, Alma’s victory is noteworthy. In fact, Noelia Voight, Utah’s representative and the winner of Miss USA 2023, had to give up her crown several months prior to the prestigious event.

“In a long post on Instagram last May, Noelia stated something significant: ‘I understand this might be quite startling to some.’ She emphasized the importance of never sacrificing one’s physical and mental wellness, stating that our health is our greatest asset. She expressed her gratitude for everyone’s consistent and steadfast support and announced it’s time for her to write the next chapter in her life.”

After the surprising change in Noelia’s film, where Savannah Gankiewicz took over as Miss Hawaii, other celebrities in the pageant world started making similar moves. This included UmaSofia Srivastava, who relinquished her title as Miss Teen USA, followed closely by her resignation (Addie Carver was announced as the new Miss Teen USA 2024 winner on Aug. 1).

In her Instagram post from May, UmaSofia stated that after much contemplation, she decided to step down from being Miss Teen USA 2023. She reminisced about her time as Miss NJ Teen USA with great affection and expressed pride in having represented her state as a first-generation Mexican-Indian American at the national level, an experience she found incredibly meaningful.

Meanwhile, although Stephanie Skinner was ready to take over from Noelia’s second place finisher, UmaSofia, she turned down the opportunity to hold the title instead.

After receiving the crown, she shared with People that she had worked tirelessly and made significant sacrifices to achieve her goal of becoming Miss Teen USA. Even though winning this title was a cherished dream of hers, she emphasized that there’s one aspect of herself she will never compromise on – her character.
