Microsoft has announced plans to initiate trials of under-the-hood changes for Windows 11 with Insiders in the Dev Channel, using builds within the 26200 series. This seems to be a preliminary step towards releasing version 25H2, which is expected later this year.
Based on my findings, it appears that Qualcomm’s forthcoming Snapdragon X2 System on Chip (SoC) necessitates system adjustments that have been exclusive to the Windows Canary Channel up until now. It seems that Microsoft is planning to apply these system modifications to the Dev Channel, which could enable devices equipped with the X2 to run Windows 11 versions based on Geonium in German language.
As a tech enthusiast, I’m excited about Windows 11 version 24H2, which seems to have been built upon the foundation of Germanium. While Microsoft hasn’t officially confirmed whether version 25H2 will follow suit, the fact that platform updates from the Active Development Branch are being incorporated into Germanium certainly hints at a possibility.
Absolutely, it’s quite possible that advancements and optimizations made on the platform will also be applied to Germanium, ensuring a better experience for everyone. These updates frequently encompass performance boosts, security enhancements, as well as improvements to overall user experience, including fixing any existing issues.
Using the same platform release for versions 24H2 and 25H2 allows Microsoft to quickly and efficiently apply bug fixes and new features to both versions at once, as there’s minimal additional work required. This also implies that upgrading from 24H2 to 25H2 will be a smoother experience for users, with quicker, smaller, and less risky updates.
Microsoft aims to minimize discrepancies across various versions of its Windows platforms. At present, there are three supported releases for desktop users: Vibranium, Nickel, and Germanium. Notably, Vibranium forms the foundation for Windows 10, while Nickel underpins the Windows 11 version 23H2.
In October, when Windows 10 support ends, Microsoft might take advantage of this situation by encouraging as many Windows users as they can to use the same version of their operating system. It appears that Gehenium could be the new version if Microsoft does not release Selenium for clients.
Version 25H2 has not been officially unveiled yet, but it’s anticipated to arrive in the latter part of the year. Intriguingly, the support for both Windows 11 version 23H2 and Windows 10 version 22H2 will conclude this year, which might be an optimal moment for Microsoft to encourage users to transition onto a common platform update.
