Microsoft announced recently that they plan to release versions of Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition and Age of Mythology: Retold specifically for PlayStation 5 in the upcoming months. The Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition will debut on PS5 in Spring 2025, while Age of Mythology: Retold is set to launch on March 4, 2025.
Just over a week after the announcement of the PS5 version of Forza Horizon 5, two strategy games have been unveiled that now offer high-quality combat on Sony’s latest console. As Michael Mann’s blog post explains, “playing across all platforms is a significant shift for our franchise, and it’s about uniting our community.” This isn’t just about making things easier; it’s about expanding and fortifying the Age community. The cross-play feature will enable you to team up with current Xbox and PC users.
Age of Mythology: Retold, launched last year to acclaim, is an updated version of the 2002 original from Ensemble Studios for PS5. This refreshed edition will include all the latest updates, and a new DLC titled Immortal Pillars can be purchased separately. The standard edition retails at £22.49 / $29.99, while the Premium Edition is priced at £37.99 / $49.99, providing early access for five days.
In essence, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is an upgraded version of the 1999 game, boasting improved graphics in 4K resolution, along with every prior DLC and fresh content. The PS5 adaptation is set for spring release, accompanied by another expansion pack. Notably, cross-platform play will be available on all editions.
