As a seasoned gamer with decades of flight simulator experience under my belt, I must say, I’m quite disappointed with the launch of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. I remember the excitement when Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 dropped, and the sheer joy of taking off for the first time in a virtual Boeing 747.
The latest version of Microsoft’s Flight Simulator, scheduled for release in 2024, has faced a rocky debut, as many players have struggled to access the game. Microsoft claims that server problems have been addressed, yet the negative public reaction has still left the game with an “Overwhelmingly Negative” user rating on Steam, with just 18% of the more than 3,000 reviews being positive at the time of writing.
It’s not surprising that the game’s player count on the platform mirrors this situation. As reported by SteamDB, the number of concurrent players for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 currently stands at 24,863. This is a respectable figure in itself, but it falls short compared to the peak number of players (over 61,000) that the 2020 version of Microsoft Flight Simulator had at its height.
Absolutely, we’re right in the middle of the workweek, and the previously mentioned technical problems have undoubtedly slowed down the game’s progress. It will be interesting to see if player numbers surge significantly in the following days, particularly as updates and fixes are implemented. Keeping a close watch on this development seems prudent.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is available on Xbox Series X/S and PC.
