As a long-time fan of the Final Fantasy series who has spent countless hours immersed in its magical worlds, I can hardly contain my excitement at the prospect of more Square Enix games gracing the Xbox platform! The possibility of playing iconic titles like Final Fantasy VII [Remake], Final Fantasy XVI, and even the Pixel Remasters on my Xbox Series X|S is nothing short of a dream come true.
The collaboration between Microsoft and Square Enix has noticeably strengthened since the launch of Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox Series X|S, indicating a continued commitment to the Xbox platform from Square Enix. Although no official announcements have been made yet, there’s buzz about potential games that might make their way over from PlayStation. In a recent episode of The Xbox Two podcast, Jez Corden from Windows Central hinted at possible upcoming announcements during Tokyo Game Show on Xbox’s part.
According to Corden, there’s a strong possibility we’ll see something related to Final Fantasy soon. Rumor has it that the entire lineup is under consideration, including the remake of Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy XVI, and Pixel Remasters. There’s been speculation about whether Sony owns exclusive rights to Final Fantasy VII forever, but he’s heard that’s not the case, suggesting it might eventually be released on Xbox. However, he doesn’t know when exactly or if it will be in the initial release wave.
Corden stated his anticipation for the unveiling of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters and Final Fantasy XVI during Tokyo Game Show. However, he doesn’t foresee an immediate announcement about Final Fantasy VII Remake due to the need for careful planning since it forms part of a trilogy. Additionally, Corden expressed uncertainty regarding the current status of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth as an exclusive, suggesting that it may not be available on other consoles until later.
Kick things off by introducing the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters and Final Fantasy XVI, as it aligns logically! The Pixel Remasters offer Xbox players an opportunity to delve into the initial six games of the series, whereas Final Fantasy XVI is the latest numbered installment. This approach showcases the evolution of the franchise across the years, avoiding complications associated with a trilogy that isn’t yet concluded and considering PlayStation’s timed exclusivity for the third part.
Fortunately, we won’t have to wonder much longer, as the Xbox presentation at the Tokyo Game Show is scheduled for September 26th.
