The struggle with Windows Search has been real, and this update promises to make it more intuitive and accurate.
This year, Microsoft plans to roll out an update for Windows 11, introducing advanced AI functionalities, available only on Copilot+ computers. These new features aim to improve the operating system’s overall productivity by incorporating AI technology across various aspects. Notably, Microsoft is integrating AI into the search function of Windows 11, enabling users to find files and images using more natural, descriptive language.
On Windows 11, Microsoft aims to significantly improve the search function by implementing AI technology. Instead of delivering inaccurate results like its current version, this enhanced feature is designed to locate the desired files by understanding what you recall about them. For instance, if you’re seeking photos taken at a recent BBQ, typing “BBQ” should display images that resemble a BBQ, regardless of whether the images are explicitly labeled as such in their filenames.
As an analyst, I’m sharing some exciting news from Microsoft: AI enhancements are on their way to our File Explorer, with plans to eventually reach Windows Settings and the universal search pane. These advancements, however, seem to be tailored for Copilot+ PCs, as they necessitate a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) to handle visual recognition data, enabling better description of documents and files in search queries.
