Microsoft joins Meta, Google and other tech giants in donating $1 million to President Trump’s record-breaking inauguration fund

Microsoft has announced it will donate a billion dollars to support President Donald Trump’s inauguration, joining other tech leaders such as Google, Meta, and possibly Amazon in contributing funds. Reports indicate that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has already contributed $1 million personally, with Apple CEO Tim Cook also planning to contribute an equal amount.

A representative from Microsoft confirmed to CNBC that they donated $500,000 each to both President Trump’s and President Biden’s initial inauguration campaigns. The contribution for 2025 is reportedly double the amount they typically give to inaugural funds, but Microsoft has not disclosed the reason behind this. It’s speculated that Microsoft could have aimed to match the substantial pledges other tech companies had publicly announced.

Previously, Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, has had meetings with President Trump on various occasions, as reported by CNBC. When TikTok was up for sale in 2020, Microsoft was contemplating a purchase due to national security concerns. However, despite Microsoft being considered a possible solution, an acquisition of TikTok did not occur in the end.

The funds collected for Trump’s inauguration have set new records for donations, according to Forbes. So far, more than $170 million has been accumulated.
