Microsoft offers a gift card to a select few for feedback on new Office icons

Microsoft is currently designing new icons for popular applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and various others from their suite. They are inviting the public to share their opinions about these proposed icons.

A Microsoft survey email was forwarded to us by a reader.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share an exclusive invitation straight from the heart of Microsoft! Today, we’re reaching out to you with a fantastic opportunity – a short, 15-minute survey designed to delve into your thoughts and preferences about our ongoing endeavor to refine iconography within Microsoft 365. Your insights will be invaluable in helping us create an experience that truly resonates with you!

Those who participate in the survey will be offered a $10 gift card.

A Reddit post by user jbgski shares an image of some of the icons.

From first look, the freshly designed icons exhibit greater dimensionality than the present ones. Although minimalist or ‘flat’ design has been prevalent lately, these new icons inject a lot more character and individuality.

Six years have passed since Microsoft refreshed the designs of their Office icons, although it seems like only yesterday. Prior to this change, the layouts of Microsoft’s Office applications had remained consistent for approximately five years.

From what I think, these fresh symbols mark a positive advancement. Not only do they boast a richer depth compared to the existing ones, but they also stand out uniquely from one another.

In the revised version of Microsoft 365, some icons share similar images but have been recolored differently. However, the icons for Word and Excel stand out more clearly as they have unique designs within this new collection.

Of particular note, no icons have yet switched to display the Copilot emblem. Lately, there’s been a transformation in the Microsoft 365 logo, which has sparked humor and critiques among users.

Among Microsoft’s most prominent products, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and others currently undergoing icon redesign, it seems unusual to consider a departure from their traditional branding. The newly designed icons manage to preserve the familiar aspect of each application while incorporating contemporary design aesthetics.
