Microsoft previews Copilot feature that watches what you’re looking at on the internet

What you need to know

  • Copilot Vision is a new feature that lets Copilot browse the internet with you.
  • Copilot can help discuss content on the internet and even interact with some websites.
  • Copilot Vision is now available in preview for Copilot Pro subscribers.

As someone who has been using digital assistants for years and has seen them evolve from simple voice commands to more complex interactions, I must say that Copilot Vision is truly a game-changer. The idea of having an AI companion that can browse the web with me, discuss content, and even interact with websites feels like a dream come true.

Previously, Microsoft unveiled an upcoming feature for Copilot named Copilot Vision, enabling it to surf the web concurrently with you, observing all your actions and providing comments or assistance with internet content. As of today, this feature, which is still in a trial phase, can be tested out; however, it’s important to note that it requires payment to access.

One of the unique features of Copilot, known as Copilot Vision, can only be accessed with an active subscription to the premium version of Copilot Pro. The monthly fee for this subscription is $20, granting you access to Copilot within Office applications, priority service during busy periods, and now, Copilot Vision. At present, Copilot Vision previews are exclusively available in the United States, with a phased rollout taking place in select areas.

Here’s how Microsoft explains what Copilot Vision is all about:

With Copilot Vision enabled, Copilot can now comprehend the entire context of your online activities. It will display the page you are viewing, read along with you, and assist in addressing any issues you might encounter. This way, web surfing becomes a collaborative experience instead of a solo adventure with just you and your tabs.

Microsoft emphasizes that Copilot Vision was designed with privacy and security as top priorities. This feature is entirely optional, so you can choose not to use it if you prefer. Also, it’s important to note that any data Copilot Vision processes during your session gets immediately erased once your session concludes. However, please keep in mind that an active internet connection is necessary for Copilot Vision to operate effectively.

In the first look at Copilot Vision, it’ll only function on specific websites. Moreover, an exciting aspect is that the data it gathers from online content won’t be utilized to educate AI models. Copilot Vision belongs to Microsoft Edge and doesn’t necessitate a Copilot+ PC because the AI processing happens in the cloud instead.
