It’s possible that Microsoft Edge may introduce a feature where you can turn off all extensions at once by simply clicking a button. This feature is currently being tested in the Edge Canary version, so it might take some time before it becomes available for general use.
If it manages to be shipped, that’s the case; however, as pointed out by Leo Varela (X user @Leopeva64), Microsoft had previously experimented with similar features but decided against launching them.
In my observation, the updated feature exhibits a slight deviation compared to its previous trial, yet its core function remains consistent. On any given webpage, I’ve noticed a handy option within the extension menu that allows for the selective disabling of all add-ons on that particular site.
Certain extensions offer the ability to be temporarily disabled. Take uBlock Origin for instance; it provides a big on/off switch that allows you to see ads on particular sites, or when the ad blocker is preventing certain content from showing up on a webpage.
Utilizing the latest Edge feature, users can effortlessly disable all extensions temporarily, creating a streamlined and uncluttered browsing environment on specific websites as desired.
Adding an extension function to Edge could be a great enhancement since both Google Chrome and Microsoft have previously offered similar options.
As a researcher, I’m excited to share that Microsoft is advancing Edge with numerous innovative features in development. One such feature is the revamped tab page, which now revolves around Copilot. Initially, this page was accessible only through a hidden flag, but it’s now being gradually rolled out for all users.
This year, Microsoft refreshed the Edge Extensions webpage as well. Some users prefer installing extensions from the Chrome Web Store instead of the Edge Extensions page because Edge is compatible with these. The recent update on the Add-ons page simplifies finding top-quality extensions and features a revamped themes section for improved organization.
It remains to be seen whether Microsoft will roll out the new extension feature, or if they might abandon the idea once more.
