Microsoft Teams isn’t quite there yet in terms of allowing you to forgo all your meetings entirely, but it’s rapidly approaching. A fresh addition to Teams will prompt suggestions for follow-up questions to pose to meeting participants based on the discussions held during the meeting. This feature might be rolled out as early as March, although this isn’t a definitive launch date.
An entry on the Microsoft 365 roadmap summarizes the feature:
In Teams Meetings, when Copilot answers a question, it may also propose additional queries to continue the discussion. These queries are typically connected to the previous response and could involve exploring a specific subject further, requesting additional information, or inquiring about a certain point made during the meeting by someone.
In late November, Microsoft initially introduced this feature. Recently, an update occurred just a few days ago. Upon its release, the feature is scheduled to be accessible on the desktop version of Teams for users with Microsoft 365 Copilot privileges.
What is Copilot in Teams?
In simpler terms, the AI tool called Copilot in Teams functions as your helpful assistant during chats and meetings. It’s like having a dedicated person who keeps track of what you might have missed and provides quick summaries of meeting discussions. Additionally, you can utilize this tool even after the meetings have concluded within the Teams platform.
With Copilot in Teams, you can summarize meetings, outline tasks to be completed, identify unresolved issues, and create meeting minutes. It’s equipped to address queries like “On what points do we differ regarding this topic?” or “How did [a team member] react to that proposal?”, making it a helpful assistant in your meetings.
Microsoft breaks down the capabilities of Copilot in Teams further within a support document.
To utilize the Copilot feature in Teams, it’s necessary to opt for a subscription that encompasses Microsoft 365 Copilot. While several plans from Microsoft offer Microsoft 365 Copilot, you should anticipate a cost of approximately $30 per user per month. The precise price may fluctuate based on your chosen plan and whether you decide to pay monthly or yearly.
