Microsoft Will “Definitely” Make More Xbox Consoles in the Future, Says Phil Spencer

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can hardly contain my excitement as the Xbox landscape is about to be transformed yet again! The upcoming releases of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle promise an unparalleled gaming experience that I simply can’t wait to immerse myself in.

After a rather lackluster year for Xbox exclusives, we can expect three significant games to arrive soon: “S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl“, followed by “Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024” next week, and “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” in December. Despite a decline in console sales recently, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has assured us that there are plans for future hardware.

When Rolling Stone inquired about stopping console production due to the company’s emphasis on streaming and multi-purpose devices, Spencer responded affirmatively by stating that they will indeed produce more consoles in the future, as well as other types of devices.

The latter could include an Xbox handheld, which Spencer alluded to “multiple times” in the conversation (and also discussed with Bloomberg recently, though it’s still a ways off). However, it’s unlikely that we’ll see a mid-gen console refresh for the Xbox Series X/S similar to Sony’s recently launched PS5 Pro.

According to Spencer, we’re brainstorming hardware solutions that offer distinctive advantages to both our users and content creators within our platform. It’s unnecessary for us to develop additional hardware just for our own gain.

Is this novel gadget truly offering a distinct visual encounter? It’s not as straightforward as upgrading from the original Xbox to the 360, where you moved from standard definition to high definition. Demonstrating the advantages of this new device is becoming more challenging.

It’s been suggested that Microsoft had thought about it, as evidenced in leaked court documents during its case with the US Federal Trade Commission. Reports indicate that an all-digital version of the Series X, codenamed Brooklin, was intended for a 4K experience and boasted a cylindrical design thanks to a 6 nm die shrink. It’s yet uncertain if this will happen, but Xbox President Sarah Bond has affirmed that their upcoming next-generation console promises “an unprecedented technological advancement” in hardware development.
