As a seasoned tech enthusiast with decades of web browsing under my belt, I must say that Microsoft’s new Copilot Vision feature is nothing short of mind-blowing! The idea of having an AI companion that can browse the web alongside me, offering advice, opinions, and even a friendly ear when needed, feels like a dream come true.
Microsoft recently introduced an extraordinary new feature called Copilot Vision for the upcoming Copilot, allowing it to surf the web alongside you to aid in decision-making or simply chat while you read news articles or shop online. This unique feature is only accessible to Copilot Pro subscribers through Microsoft’s innovative “Copilot Labs” preview program, and it could be one of the most intriguing demonstrations of the new Copilot functionalities announced today.
Microsoft aims for users to perceive Copilot as a helpful companion rather than a mere tool. For instance, Copilot Vision allows Copilot to share your screen in Edge browser, enabling it to view the same web pages as you. This feature can be activated if desired, and once enabled, Copilot will provide suggestions, opinions, or assistance based on the content of the webpage you’re interacting with.
Here’s how Microsoft describes Copilot Vision:
Microsoft Edge’s integrated feature, known as Copilot, functions as your helpful assistant. It has the ability to comprehend the content of the webpage you’re browsing and respond to questions about it. It can provide suggestions for further actions, answer queries, guide navigation, and assist with tasks – all you need to do is speak to it in a natural, conversational manner.
An illustrative scenario involves shopping for new red shoes. By activating Copilot Vision, you can inform it of your intention to purchase these shoes. It will then provide suggestions on where to find the best prices and may even offer an opinion on whether the shoes you’re considering are aesthetically pleasing. Furthermore, you can utilize Copilot as a conversational companion while browsing news or social media content.
As an enthusiast, I learned that Microsoft’s Copilot Vision doesn’t have the ability to interact directly with websites, but it can help you find what you’re looking for by pointing out where to click on certain sites. However, it doesn’t function on paywalled or restricted sites at this time, and currently, it only works on a selected list of websites. But don’t worry, they plan to expand its reach in the upcoming months!
It’s important to stress that Copilot Vision is an optional feature that isn’t enabled by default and is only activated if you select it. When enabled, all the data it processes is handled on-device and promptly deleted after you are done. It doesn’t get sent to Microsoft or third parties for training.
