Microsoft’s Surface Repair Secret Exposed!

The newly released Surface devices offer simpler repairs compared to their predecessors from Microsoft, yet there are instances when professional assistance is necessary for your PC. A fresh collaboration between Microsoft and uBreakiFix by Asurion provides Surface users with additional repair solutions.

Individuals owning Surface devices now have the option to take their devices to uBreakiFix stores for repairs using genuine Microsoft parts and equipment.

At uBreakiFix, we can handle repairs for items still under warranty as well as perform services on devices that are no longer covered by a warranty. However, please note that the availability of necessary parts may impact our ability to work on out-of-warranty devices.

Dave Barbuto, CEO of uBreakiFix by Asurion, stated that providing in-warranty support directly at customers’ homes offers a hassle-free and quick solution for those seeking assistance immediately, without compromising their product warranty.

For customers who shop at our stores, it’s reassuring to know that their devices are being fixed by well-trained professionals, utilizing top-notch components, in line with the manufacturer’s specifications. We’re thrilled to offer these customers additional options when faced with a damaged laptop or tablet, and we’re optimistic that broadening our repair services will only enhance the way they interact with their preferred Surface devices.

Through this collaboration, we make it simpler for clients to get repairs done, thereby benefiting them while also minimizing electronic waste. Prolonging the lifespan of PCs implies that individuals won’t need to replace their hardware as often.

Who is uBreakiFix?

Back in the earlier part of this year, Microsoft established a partnership designating uBreakiFix as the first official Xbox Authorized Repair Center.

This Xbox-centric collaboration and recent announcements about Surface have broadened our partnership. Consequently, people can now take any authorized Surface or Xbox device to a uBreakiFix store within the U.S. for repair services.

At uBreakiFix, our repair specialists employ genuine components and equipment, backed by training directly from Microsoft.

At uBreakiFix, we’re equipped to handle repairs for Surface devices that are still within their warranty period. Additionally, our services extend to non-warranty repairs; however, these are subject to the availability of necessary parts.

As a bystander, I’ve noticed that some common issues uBreakiFix tackles include faulty screens, malfunctioning keyboards, and troubles with batteries or storage devices that aren’t functioning optimally.

Most repairs on Surface devices can be completed within a few days.

According to Asurion, most American residents live no more than 10 miles away from a uBreakiFix by Asurion repair shop.

Surface repairability

Previously, surface devices were often found to be among the hardest to fix when it comes to consumer electronics. For instance, the Surface Pro 7 earned a score of just 1 out of 10 from iFixit, which represents their lowest possible rating.

The first Surface Laptop was called a “glue-filled monster” by iFixit.

The Surface Pro 9 marked an improvement, as it was the most repair-friendly Surface Pro model upon its release.

Microsoft has emphasized repairability, resulting in the creation of the Surface Pro 11 and Surface Laptop 7. (or)

The Surface Pro 11 and Surface Laptop 7 were designed with a focus on making them easy to repair by Microsoft.

As a tech enthusiast, I’ve got to share that both my tablet and laptop, upon their initial assessment by iFixit, scored an impressive 8 out of 10. It’s worth mentioning that these scores come from different grading systems for tablets and laptops, respectively.

iFixit said the following of the latest Surface devices:

The latest Surface Laptop and Surface Pro models stand out for their flexibility and user-friendly design. They come equipped with easily removable batteries, swappable storage options, clear disassembly instructions etched on the inside, along with official service manuals. Consequently, the Surface Laptop 7 receives a tentative 8 out of 10 in our laptop repairability assessment. Similarly, the Surface Pro 11 earns an 8 out of 10 in our tablet repairability rating.

Microsoft’s current emphasis on repairability marks a welcome change from their previous approach, setting them apart from many other computer manufacturers.

It’s great that the latest Surface devices can be more easily repaired, and this week’s announcement about the collaboration between Microsoft and uBreakiFix is also good news. Since some repairs require professional expertise, this partnership simplifies the process for Surface users to have their devices fixed by a qualified technician.
