Midsomer Murders first look as Barnaby and Winter tackle vengeful mystery

As a long-time fan of British detective shows, I can’t help but be excited for the latest episode of Midsomer Murders, “A Grain of Truth.” The new installment promises to deliver all the suspense and intrigue that we’ve come to expect from this beloved series.

In the video, detectives Neil Dudgeon as Barnaby and Nick Hendrix as Winter probe an intriguing case involving famous bakers Tom and Chrissie Larkton. Their renovation of an ancient water mill has created quite a commotion.

As Chrissie begins to receive ominous warnings of her own demise, it’s revealed that there’s a cryptic hex responsible for causing fatalities.

Barnaby jokes that the case might need a “paranormal investigator rather than a detective”.

In the upcoming episode titled “A Grain of Truth,” tensions are expected to rise between the Larkton family and Denise Bantrig, the proprietor of the Highwayman Inn, as well as Maria, who manages the local café.

The situation becomes ominous as Chrissie starts to experience hallucinations and comes close to meeting her demise, collapsing by the mill pond in a dazed condition. When the same thing happens to people at the pub, Fleur suspects that rolls Chrissie consumed were tainted.

When a farmer meets an untimely demise, it becomes essential for Barnaby and Winter to unravel the mystery before the culprit strikes once more.

In my recent movie-watching experience, I came across an episode that left me utterly astonished. At Mapledurham, the last operational watermill on the Thames, we witnessed a truly grand stunt being executed by the Hendrix team. I was there, right in the thick of it all, as they pulled off this breathtaking feat. The sight was nothing short of spectacular and left me in awe.

“There was a large Archimedes’ screw – think of it as a giant water pump connected to the mill. This device churned water, which in turn activated the wheel that ground the grain.”

Imagine this scenario: We were surrounded by a lake with a water mill at its heart. A character met an unfortunate fate, getting bound to a massive paddle wheel. After being struck unconscious, the wheel relentlessly dragged them closer to peril.

During winter, I step out of the vehicle and dive from a considerable height into the water. My intention is to support someone in distress while attempting to free them from their restraints. At that moment, I thought to myself, “This won’t be too challenging, I’m quite an adept swimmer.”

“But I’ll tell you what, it was really, really hard work.

Despite being carefully managed and secure, the intense force of the water made it quite challenging for us, even though we’re both fairly fit. By the finale, we were both drained but elated, as the experience turned out to be an amazing day.

During those days, I hold a deep affection as the stunt crew adds an essential element to our work, keeping us occupied with challenging tasks.

By the end of the day, I’ll be left with a sense of accomplishment, proud of what we’ve managed to achieve together. I truly believe we’ve made something noteworthy, and I can’t wait for others to see it too.

Midsomer Murders continues on ITV1 on Tuesday 23rd July at 8pm. Catch up on ITVX.
