The very first stage adaptation of Midsomer Murders is setting off on a UK tour this fall, adding freshness (perhaps ironically) to the traditional tale known as “The Killings at Badger’s Drift.
Originally portraying Sergeant Troy in the television series, Daniel Casey reprises his role as DCI Tom Barnaby, a character previously played by John Nettles and known for its fame.
He mentioned that the play will truly embody the spirit of the TV show, and if you’re a fan of the TV series, you’ll surely enjoy the play.

1997 marked the debut of “The Killings at Badger’s Drift,” which served as the initial episode for the long-running series Midsomer Murders. This intriguing tale was also the first novel in the series, penned by author Caroline Graham.
In the charming village of Badger’s Drift, beloved spinster Emily Simpson is discovered deceased, and her friend Lucy Bellringer doubts it was an accident. Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby and Sergeant Gavin Troy are summoned to probe this case, revealing a hidden tapestry of deep emotions, long-kept secrets, and lethal rivalries.
The Killings at Badger’s Drift, featuring peculiar locals, unexpected plot turns, and a jaw-dropping climax, is a timeless mystery novel that will leave viewers breathless with suspense.
Whenever someone inquired if another tale was once contemplated for the stage production, Casey replied that Badger’s Drift had always been the chosen one.
He commented: “This tale is simply extraordinary! It’s filled with such intricate darkness and peculiar, captivating characters that it seems perfectly suited for a theatrical performance.
In essence, the television show possesses a distinctly dramatic flair. The British cast excels in portraying quirky villagers, seamlessly fitting their characters into the theatrical realm.
Initially, Casey harbored some reservations about re-entering the Midsomer universe, yet only after participating in a workshop did he realize how suitable the show was on stage: “It seemed odd,” he explained, “I hesitated, but Guy Unsworth invited me, and it felt incredibly natural.
It seemed perfectly fitting and something that truly piqued my interest. Moreover, the talented creative team is exceptional, and they all share a deep affection for Midsomer.
Presently, the tour features 15 destinations spread throughout the United Kingdom, such as Richmond, Cornwall, Sheffield, and Birmingham. Yet, if provided with the opportunity, Casey expresses a strong desire to expand this journey even more.
“I would love it to go to the West End, or have a life elsewhere.”
He added: “There’s been a lot of positive responses from online viewers, with some expressing hope that it might arrive in Australia. And I find myself sharing that sentiment!
