Over the last year, there’s been some uncertainty surrounding the Power Rangers franchise, but it appears things are picking up again. Recently, we got a hint about the anticipated comeback of the toy line. As previously announced, Hasbro is no longer responsible for producing Power Rangers toys; instead, Playmates Toys will be stepping in to launch a new toy series this year. Since then, details have been scarce, but it seems there’s more information on the horizon as Playmates has finally disclosed that the name of the new line will be Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Re-Ignition and hinted at further revelations to come.
Together, the official Power Rangers account and Playmates Toys have shared a post, unveiling the logo for their upcoming toy line and stating, “Prepare for the rekindling of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers with an extraordinary new merchandise collection. Keep an eye out for further updates…
Previously, the Power Rangers toy line went by the name Lightning Collection, although it ended prematurely. Nevertheless, it promised a total of 15 major releases of 6-inch action figures, along with numerous two-packs, larger monsters, and exclusives. The last set of figures became available in 2023, which led to a year-long hiatus on toy shelves in 2024. However, we can look forward to their return in the year 2025.
This year’s Toy Fair, happening from March 1st to March 4th, is likely to unveil more details and possibly the initial in-person presentations. A hint of what’s to come would be fitting if Toy Fair serves as the grand introduction. Additionally, we can anticipate learning about the release date for the first batch of toys from the collection during this event as well.
Playmates Toys has the authority to create more diverse Power Rangers items beyond action figures, such as toys like blasters, plushies, role-play gear, vehicles, and accessories. These products will be available globally excluding Asia. On the other hand, Hasbro maintains control over the entertainment aspects of the franchise, and you’ll find Power Rangers merchandise on Hasbro Pulse and at events like San Diego Comic-Con.
In the initial announcement, Karl Aaronian, SVP of Marketing at Playmates, expressed his excitement about collaborating with Hasbro on revamping the toy line for an iconic franchise, appealing to both long-time fans and a new wave of kids. Both companies share a common language in toys and have a deep-rooted passion for POWER RANGERS, a timeless phenomenon that continues to captivate generations.
According to Casey Collins, President of Licensed Consumer Products at Hasbro, Playmates’ talent for creating detailed, inventive, and economical character-based merchandise has given new life to various well-known brands. They are an ideal match to completely develop the POWER RANGERS franchise. While we will still offer guidance and direction on future POWER RANGERS product lines, Playmates will utilize their skills in action figure and accessory design, development, and marketing to establish a fresh play and collection experience for fans of all ages. With these two powerful companies collaborating to support a strong brand, the possibilities are endless!
