Mike Flanagan’s Carrie Series Has Cast Margaret White, And I Love The FlanaFamily Veteran Choice

In terms of pivotal roles when adapting “Carrie”, it’s often Margaret White, Carrie’s mother, that garners the most attention. Notably, Piper Laurie received her second Academy Award nomination for portraying the character in Brian de Palma’s 1976 film. Subsequently, Patricia Clarkson (2002 TV movie) and Julianne Moore (2013 remake) also delivered outstanding performances as Margaret White. This role is a significant and impactful one within the narrative, and for the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series, Mike Flanagan has made some impressive casting choices to reflect this importance.

It’s been announced that the main roles for the streaming series adaptation of Carrie have largely been filled, and one particularly intriguing casting choice is Samantha Sloyan, who will portray Margaret White. Fans familiar with Mike Flanagan’s previous films and TV shows will undoubtedly recognize Sloyan’s name, as she has collaborated with him since 2016’s Hush.

After the release of the home-invasion film, Flanagan collaborated with Sloyan on The Haunting Of Hill House, The Midnight Club, and The Fall Of The House Of Usher. However, the most compelling proof that she will undoubtedly excel as Margaret White can be seen in her role on Midnight Mass. In the 2021 Netflix horror series, her character, Bev Keane, is an ardent believer and skilled at using religion to manipulate others, a trait similar to Margaret’s fanaticism (not to mention that she is clearly mentally unstable).

The rest of the new cast announcements includes:

  • Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen: Carrie White’s worst tormenter and bully.
  • Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin: The gym teacher who comes to Carrie’s defense when she is being bullied by the other girls
  • Arthur Conti as Billy: Chris Hargensen’s sadistic boyfriend who helps organize the prom prank
  • Joel Oulette as Tommy: The “nice guy” boyfriend of Sue Snell who reaches out to Carrie and invites her to prom.
  • Josie Totah as Tina: Chris Hargensen’s best friend
  • Thalia Dudek as Emaline: Seemingly an original character not featured in teh book

Previously stated announcements include Summer H. Howell taking on the role of Carrie White, Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, and Matthew Lillard portraying Principal Grayle. Recently, Matthew Lillard collaborated with Mike Flanagan on the production of the new Stephen King movie entitled “The Life Of Chuck“.

The filming for “Carrie” is set to begin this summer, with Mike Flanagan anticipated to direct some episodes from the eight-episode series while also serving as executive producer and showrunner. As of now, a release date has not been disclosed; however, fans eagerly awaiting Stephen King adaptations have quite a treat coming in 2025’s latter half: after the debut of “The Monkey” in February, the following months will bring forth the movies “The Life Of Chuck”, “The Long Walk”, and “The Running Man”, as well as the shows “The Institute” on MGM+ and “IT: Welcome To Derry” on HBO.
