As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for the macabre, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the digital release of Mike Flanagan’s 2016 gem, “Hush”. The movie, which boasts a chilling 93% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, was previously only available on Netflix, but now, thanks to Shout! Studios, it can be bought or rented across various digital platforms.

The 2016 horror movie “Hush,” directed by Mike Flanagan, has made a digital comeback after about a year off Netflix. Produced by Intrepid Pictures and Blumhouse, it was initially released directly on Netflix in 2016, marking the start of Flanagan’s lasting association with the streaming service. This week, you can purchase it for the first time, courtesy of Shout! Studios. Additionally, Flanagan hinted at “big news” upcoming, potentially indicating a physical release for the film in the near future.

You can now purchase or rent Flanagan’s film “Hush” (boasting a 93% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes) on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, and various digital video on demand services for $14.99 (to buy) and $5.99 (to rent).

Flanagan expressed his joy that “Hush” – a project dear to him – now has found a suitable home at Shout! Studios. He’s thrilled that audiences can soon rent or buy the film digitally, praising Shout! Studios for their dedication to preserving and promoting their content. He’s eagerly anticipating future projects as well, hinting that “Hush” fans have plenty to look forward to!

Under Flanagan’s direction, the movie titled “Hush” features Kate Siegel (recognized from “The Haunting of Hill House“, “Midnight Mass” ), John Gallagher Jr. (known for “The Newsroom“, “10 Cloverfield Lane” ), Samantha Sloyan (noted in “Midnight Mass“, “Grey’s Anatomy” ), and Michael Trucco (acclaimed in “Battlestar Galactica“, “The Fall of the House of Usher” ). The script for “Hush” was penned by Flanagan and Siegel, with Trevor Macy from Intrepid Pictures and Jason Blum from Blumhouse handling production.

In the movie “Hush“, a secluded author who is deaf and prefers a solitary existence in the forest finds herself in a struggle to survive silently as a mysterious figure breaks into her home through the window, threatening her life.

And, yes, it’s got ties to Flanagan’s larger body of work.

In 2021, Siegel mentioned that he first learned about “Midnight Mass” while working on the film “Hush”. Since it was a low-budget production, they needed a cost-effective story for the protagonist Maddie, who is an author in the narrative. Instead of purchasing rights to any existing work, Mike suggested using his old concept for a novel named “Midnight Mass”, which he had three chapters written. This way, they could utilize those pages and incorporate that story into their production.

She added, “We used it. If you look, there’s a screengrab in Hush where you’re looking at Maddie’s computer screen and it says, ‘The red and blue lights of the cop car twinkle off the Jesus fish.; That’s the first shot of Midnight Mass, which is, for those of you who haven’t read anything about it, a series about a small fishing community on an island that is very insular, and they have closed ranks. Then, a young priest arrives at the church and miracles begin to happen.”
