Millie Gibson, who played Ruby Sunday on Doctor Who last year, may not have left the TARDIS permanently, hinting that her character as a companion could return in future episodes.
As a passionate film buff, I can’t contain my excitement as I eagerly anticipate Ruby’s return in the upcoming season of the BBC’s intriguing sci-fi series. This time around, she will be joining forces once more with the Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa, and making a new connection with Belinda Chandra, portrayed by Varada Sethu.
I’m excitedly looking forward to catching glimpses of the captivating Gibson in the upcoming episodes, as TVLine hints that her appearance will be limited to only two installments – episode 4, Lucky Day, and episode 8, The Reality War.
She chuckled, saying, “I can’t reveal too many details, but there’s plenty to share that conveys the affection from Ruby, just as expected!

The promotional materials, including images and trailers, show that Ruby will be interacting with Kate Stewart (played by Jemma Redgrave) and the UNIT team again. This has been verified by Gibson, who said, “Yes, I do have scenes with them – specifically with the charming Jemma Redgrave. It was a real pleasure working with her.
The UNIT is truly an exceptional group; it’s in their name after all. They are a unified team, a delight to be associated with. I particularly appreciated Ruby’s vibrant presence among the members, not to mention The Vlinx. So yes, she has some connection with them.
In the upcoming story, titled “Fortunate Return,” we delve into Ruby’s life post-reunion with her mother, who she hadn’t seen in years following the climactic events of “Empire of Death.” We also witness Gibson’s character grappling with the repercussions of her thrilling temporal and spatial escapades, manifesting as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
In episode four, there is an exceptional plot that focuses on Ruby’s relationships with her family, which gradually leads to her sense of being adrift while waiting for the Doctor. This was clarified by her.
It’s really fascinating to reconnect with an old friend and learn about their experiences since our adventure together.

It’s only a matter of time before we witness her return together with the Doctor again, and it’s safe to say that Gibson found their previous separation quite emotional. Needless to say, this reunion promises to be an exciting event!
Actor Jonah Hauer-King, known for his role in The Little Mermaid, is set to play the role of Conrad Clark, a potential love interest for Ruby, in the upcoming movie called Lucky Day.
Additional notable actors joining the new season are Freddie Fox, Christopher Chung, Rose Ayling-Ellis, and the return of Anita Dobson portraying the mysterious character, Mrs. Flood.
Eight episodes make up this season, with scripts penned by Russell T Davies in collaboration with Pete McTighe, Juno Dawson, Inua Ellams, and Sharma Angel-Walfall.
Davis continues to express his anticipation for a decision regarding the series’ future following the upcoming season, and he expresses hope that it will be renewed.
He confirmed that no decision will be made until after season 2. It’s amusing because even those who work on the show assume we’re secretly discussing it. People I collaborate with annually ask, “What’s really going on?” and I respond, “Nothing! No discussions or decisions, nothing.”
Disney Plus, having collaborated with the BBC for the last two series, must give approval for additional episodes before filming can commence.
The classic TV show “Doctor Who” starts airing every Saturday, beginning April 12th at 6:50 PM, only on BBC One in the United Kingdom. If you’re in the UK, you can catch new episodes as early as 8 AM on Saturdays on BBC iPlayer. For those outside of the UK, the series will be available on Disney Plus.
