In their recent evaluation of the year’s poorest video game, tech specialists Digital Foundry have labeled MindsEye as “dismal,” citing that it runs at a maximum of 30 frames per second, even on the standard PS5 and the upgraded PS5 Pro.
On the PlayStation 5, the game lacks any graphical modes for selection and struggles to maintain a consistent frame rate of 30 frames per second. The base model outputs resolution between 972p and 1,008p, while the PS5 Pro is able to improve it up to 1296p.
The improvement in image sharpness is essentially the only significant upgrade you’ll notice on the PS5 Pro, as aspects like shadows, textures, and the drawing of the world seem to be much the same as the standard PS5. At this point, Sony’s PSSR upscaler doesn’t appear to be included, with the PS5 Pro utilizing the same scaling solution found in other gaming consoles.

On PC, MindsEye can exceed a framerate of 30, but it won’t surpass that on consoles. Digital Foundry noted that while many aspects of the game such as combat missions and indoor areas operate close to the 30fps mark, the main issue is that the frame pacing is extremely inconsistent across the board. For instance, on the PS5 Pro, the frame-time graph fluctuates wildly between 16ms, 33ms, and 50ms in the city, resulting in an unsmooth feel during gameplay.
As a devoted player, I’ve noticed that cruising through the cityscapes globally can feel quite uneven, while the high-speed rail shooting sequences occasionally dip below 20 frames per second, even on the PS5 Pro. According to Digital Foundry, this game seems to be experiencing a CPU bottleneck, and it’s running with the most recent 1.07 update.
Our assessment aligns with our review of MindsEye PS5, where we labeled it as an “incomplete product”. With a final rating of 3/10, we summarized: “MindsEye is a flawed, dull game that unexpectedly made its way to the market, presenting as a shattered puzzle.
