MindsEye Players Get Rare Refunds from PlayStation; Developer Gives Statement

In an unexpected move, PlayStation is granting refunds to players of the upcoming summer release, MindsEye. Despite garnering some positive reviews for its storyline, the game has been widely criticized for its buggy state, dull gameplay, and other issues. Many have compared its launch to that of Cyberpunk 2077, which was also met with criticism. This is particularly disappointing as MindsEye is the first new game from Leslie Benzies, a former producer at Rockstar North known for his work on Grand Theft Auto. The game’s poor reception raises serious concerns about its future and it remains unclear what steps will be taken to improve it.

After spending years in development, the game “MindsEye” currently has less than a thousand players on Steam and has barely reached 3k at its highest. It’s tough to envision that the console version is doing well either, suggesting it might be a significant commercial flop. However, it seems that “MindsEye” is facing even more challenges as players are asking for refunds. Interestingly, PlayStation is providing refunds to those who request them – something unusual for PlayStation. Typically, PlayStation does not offer refunds once a game has been played or in very specific situations. The last time PlayStation granted mass refunds like this was for “Cyberpunk 2077,” which also resulted in the game being removed from PlayStation‘s store for several months.

It’s clear that the initial release of MindsEye has not been well-received, with fans voicing their concerns even before it was launched, based on limited official gameplay and shaky previews. These worries intensified when a developer executive alleged that criticism was being bought by a competitor. However, with the game now out, it appears that comment may have been premature. The developers of MindsEye have acknowledged the rocky launch and stated they are working on patches to enhance performance and make adjustments to aspects such as AI and difficulty level in the game.

It’s disappointing that not all players got to play our game as we envisioned,” says the message. “We are committed to improving performance and ensuring a consistent, top-notch experience for every player, regardless of their device.

Overnight, our dedicated teams have been relentless in addressing numerous problems, and we’ve pinpointed the main cause: a memory leak. This issue affected approximately 10% of our gamers. To resolve this matter (as well as other concerns reported by players), we’re expediting a quick fix. We aim to release it on PCs tomorrow, while for consoles, it will become available once PlayStation and Xbox approve the fix during their certification process.
