MindsEye Requires “20ish” Hours to Complete, Says Director

In the past week, MindsEye’s Rocket Boy has experienced quite a rollercoaster, from revealing detailed gameplay to its co-CEO suggesting that critics with unfavorable reactions may be financially backed by someone. However, studio founder and director Leslie Benzies remains confident in the game’s vision and commitment to delivering genuine value without unnecessary additions.

In a conversation with GamesIndustry, Benzies expressed his viewpoint: “I believe there’s no room for empty content in games. Players seek the substantial parts – the main storyline and the core gameplay. We aim to provide as much meaningful content as possible, if you follow my drift.

Initially, MindsEye’s tale was said to last approximately 15 hours. However, Benzies later mentioned that it would likely stretch to around 20 hours, which he considers an ideal duration for a gaming experience.

It appears that, based on data, a significant number of individuals – around 60% or 70% – tend not to complete large video games from start to finish.

In my opinion, it would be ideal – I’m confident the team would concur – for you to design a project where you complete the entire journey from beginning to end. Instead of crafting a 200-hour game, create something that can be finished but includes additional elements that enrich the universe. The side quests in the game MindsEye, for example, help flesh out the characters’ histories or provide insights into the world events.

Regarding the cost, priced at $60, Benzies commented, “Given the current state of things, it seems everything is expensive, even eggs. In tough times, I believe folks truly value getting a good deal.

The conversation is captivating as games such as “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33” and “The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered”, priced at $49.99, have garnered acclaim for their rich content. It’s yet to be determined if “MindsEye” can match this quality in its gameplay.

The game is set to debut globally on June 10th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC platforms. However, this is just the beginning; a post-release plan has been unveiled as well. You can explore the details here.
