Minecraft Movie Sequel ALREADY Teased? Director Spills the Beans!

Over the weekend, the long-awaited “Minecraft” movie made its debut in cinemas, leaving audiences pleasantly surprised as it set a new record for the biggest opening weekend for a film based on a video game, surpassing the previous record held by “The Super Mario Bros. Movie”. Although Warner Bros. hasn’t confirmed a sequel yet, signs point towards one being inevitable. Before any official announcement, director Jared Hess has expressed his eagerness to return for another installment and even hinted at some intriguing concepts he’s been brainstorming for the potential follow-up.

In making this film, we had an incredible time and found ourselves captivated by the vastness of the game’s universe. There were numerous aspects we wished to explore but couldn’t. I can’t wait to revisit this world if a sequel is made, as there appears to be discussion about it. The anticipation among fans is palpable, and they seem thrilled by the hint we gave in the end credits.” (Hess told Deadline)

In his discussion with Deadline, Hess hinted at a surprising twist in the post-credit scene of “A Minecraft Movie“. Unlike the character who appeared, Alex (the red-haired woman who acquires Steve’s house), who was not part of the film itself, a similar teaser was used in the 2021 “Mortal Kombat” movie. The identity of Johnny Cage, too, was kept hidden. It seems this tactic was employed to leave room for casting decisions later. Hess confidently stated that Alex’s character will indeed be part of future developments.

For the sequel to “A Minecraft Movie,” there isn’t a well-defined narrative or main character like Mario or Sonic to build upon, which makes the creative process more challenging. Unlike the original film, there are numerous game elements that were not incorporated, such as the Ender Dragons and other enemies. It is hoped that a potential sequel will delve deeper into the games’ content.

It’s yet to be determined whether a Minecraft film will enjoy lasting success in the long term. The movie has had an impressive debut, but it’s uncertain if this initial buzz will sustain and lead to a sequel being produced by Warner Bros. Even if A Minecraft Movie doesn’t match the heights achieved by franchises like Mario and Sonic, the studio should be content with its performance so far.
