Despite the upcoming movie titled “The Mandalorian & Grogu“, it seems that one of the series’ beloved characters, Fennec Shand, portrayed by Ming-Na Wen, may not feature in the film. Wen, known for her roles as Mulan and Melinda May, joined the “Star Wars” universe in 2019 with her portrayal of Shand, a bounty hunter active since the Empire’s rise and during the New Republic era. With her captivating performance, Shand has quickly become one of the most beloved “Star Wars” characters in just six years, leaving fans eagerly anticipating her return.
In an interview with Screen Rant, while discussing her new movie “Karate Kid: Legends”, actress Ming-Na Wen confirmed that her character Fennec Shand will not be featured in “The Mandalorian & Grogu”. Fennec Shand was initially introduced in Season 1, Episode 5 of “The Mandalorian” and later reappeared in Season 2, sharing screen time with Boba Fett. Despite the possibility of reprising her role in future projects, Wen mentioned that she is not part of “The Mandalorian & Grogu”.
To clarify, I’m not currently part of The Mandalorian and Grogu, but if the opportunity arises, it would be fantastic! And by the way, I really hope Fennec Shand makes a return appearance. I’ve missed her as well.
Where Can Ming-Na Wen Return as Fennec Shand
Ming-Na Wen, a cast member of “The Mandalorian,” has been confirmed not to feature in the main character’s upcoming cinematic adventure. Meanwhile, Temuera Morrison, who shares the screen with her on “The Book of Boba Fett” and is renowned for his portrayal of Boba Fett, has made it clear that he will not be appearing in “The Mandalorian & Grogu.” As for Kate Sackhoff, known for her role as Bo-Katan, she’s been rather mysterious about whether she will make an appearance in the feature film. Characters from previous “Star Wars” projects who are expected to appear in “The Mandalorian & Grogu” include Zeb from “Star Wars Rebels” and Rotta the Hutt, initially introduced in the 2008 animated film “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Although Ming-Na Wen might not reprise her role in “The Mandalorian & Grogu”, there are numerous other possibilities for her to be featured in different projects. Given that she’s previously voiced a character in “The Bad Batch,” it’s possible she could appear in an upcoming “Star Wars” animated series such as “Maul: Shadowland Lord”. Furthermore, with “Ahsoka” Season 2 and “The Mandalorian & Grogu” both planned to intertwine, they may lead to a crossover movie among various Disney+ original series. Moreover, considering Fennec Shand’s presence in two Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau-produced “Star Wars” series, her return in the feature film is plausible.
Excitedly speaking as a die-hard Star Wars fan, I can’t contain my enthusiasm for “The Mandalorian & Grogu” hitting the big screen on May 26, 2026! It’ll be the first cinematic Star Wars adventure since “The Rise of Skywalker” back in December 2019. At this point, it seems that only season 2 of “Ahsoka” is slated for airing on Disney+ in 2026 as the sole live-action Star Wars series in development.
With Disney and Lucasfilm moving their attention from streaming to theatrical releases, there’s a buzz about what’s in store for characters like Fennec Shand, who first appeared in a Disney+ series. However, fear not! The expansive Star Wars universe has a knack for continuing its characters’ tales across various media platforms, such as comics, novels, and video games. So, rest assured, Fennec Shand’s story is likely far from concluded.
