The BBC’s highly anticipated new crime drama Mint has confirmed its cast.
The eight-episode television series marks the first appearance on screen for director Charlotte Regan, who was awarded one of the highest honors by the Grand Jury at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival for her film Scrapper.
The show, named “Mint,” is marketed as a humorous yet unsettling drama that unfolds the story of Shannon, who is the daughter of a prominent crime family. Caught in the treacherous realm of the criminal underworld, she yearns for love amidst the chaos and complications her upbringing has bestowed upon her.
In the upcoming production, Emma Laird, known for her role in The Brutalist, is cast as Shannon. Meanwhile, making his first foray into acting, Ben Coyle-Larner (also recognized as hip-hop artist Loyle Carner), will portray a character named Arran. Arran’s arrival significantly impacts the life of Shannon.
In other roles, Lewis Gribben (from Shetland and Generation Z) takes on the character of Luke, elder brother; Lindsay Duncan (known for Sherlock and The Wheel of Time) portrays grandmother Ollie; Laura Fraser (The Missing and Breaking Bad) will play mother Cat; while Sam Riley (Control and Brighton Rock) steps into the role of father Dylan.

In a statement, Regan (the writer, director, and executive producer) expressed his feelings by saying, “A few days ago, I found myself tearing up at the thought of our incredibly talented cast. I was emotionally overwhelmed.
To be quite honest, I find it hard to envision more compassionate individuals creating these characters. Each and every one of them promises great success, and I am incredibly thankful for their involvement in this project.
Discussing it when the series was initially given the green light, Lindsay Salt – head of BBC Drama – commented: “Mint represents an exceptional crime drama, unlike any other, born out of the creative genius of Charlotte Regan and the teams at Fearless Minds and House Productions.
Highlighting the women in their family, this portrayal offers a unique perspective on the true nature of a criminal lifestyle experienced by those closely connected to it. I’m thrilled beyond words that Charlotte has decided to collaborate with the BBC for her debut television series.
