Miss Austen air date confirmed with first trailer for Keeley Hawes and Rose Leslie adaptation

Excitedly, I’m sharing the news that my favorite broadcasting network, the BBC, has confirmed the premiere of Keeley Hawes‘ drama “Miss Austen.” Mark your calendars, fellow film enthusiasts! We’ll be diving into this captivating series on Sunday, 2nd February 2025, with episodes airing simultaneously on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Can’t wait to immerse myself in the world of Jane Austen all over again!

As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that beginning at 6 am, all four episodes of this captivating series, inspired by Gill Hornby’s blockbuster novel and commemorating the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth, will be accessible on iPlayer. But wait, there’s more! Tune in to BBC One that very same evening, as each episode will air weekly, allowing us all to savor this delightful journey together.

Upon making the announcement, a fresh trailer for the production was unveiled, offering a peek at actress Keeley Hawes portraying Cassandra Austen in Line of Duty and The Durrells. This glimpse also showcases the strong connection and allegiance she shares with her sister, Jane.

The trailer additionally portrays Young Cassy (Synnøve Karlsen) and Jane (Patsy Ferran) in past scenes, as they journey through “romantic entanglements, female bonds, and thwarted dreams that molded their destinies and paved the path for Jane’s iconic tales.

The series has been reimagined by Andrea Gibb, who wrote the screenplay for “Elizabeth is Missing”, and presents an imaginative take on a true-life literary enigma: what prompted Cassandra to destroy Jane’s correspondence?

As stated in a news announcement, the show is set to debut in 1830, over a decade after Jane’s passing. In this period, Cassandra will visit Isabella (played by Rose Leslie), the relative of her former betrothed who is facing homelessness due to her father’s demise.

The summary goes on to reveal: “Cassandra appears to be assisting Isabella, yet her true intention is to discover a secret stash of confidential letters. She’s concerned that if these letters fall into the wrong hands, they could potentially ruin Jane’s standing.

“On discovering them, Cassandra is overwhelmed as she is transported back to her youth.”

Notable actors joining the series ensemble are Phyllis Logan, known for Downton Abbey; Max Irons from Condor; Alfred Enoch of How to Get Away with Murder; Calam Lynch, famed from Bridgerton; and Liv Hill, who appeared in The Serpent Queen.

In this show, Jessica Hynes (from Life After Life), Mirren Mack (known for The Witcher), and Kevin McNally (The Crown) are among the cast members. Aisling Walsh, a BAFTA-winning director (Maudie, Elizabeth Is Missing), is at the helm as the director, while Stella Merz (Gentleman Jack, Renegade Nell) takes on the role of producer.

The BBC had previously released several first-look images for the series at the tail end of 2024.
