Alexis Smith is using her platform in a very important way.
Prior to being named Miss Kansas at the pageant last month, Alexis was asked about her plans as a representative of the Miss Kansas Organization. This presented an unusual opportunity for Alexis during a beauty contest: she identified her accused abuser in the crowd and publicly announced it.
“As the next possible Miss Kansas, I aim to put an end to harmful and controlling relationships,” she explained. “I must admit, there are people in this crowd who have witnessed me in distress, as my abuser is present in the room.”
She persisted, “Despite that, I won’t be deterred from participating in the Miss Kansas pageant and potentially becoming its next representative. This is essential for me and my community to foster healthy relationships.”
Since being posted on social media, the video clip has become widely popular. Alexis, without revealing the identity of her abuser, uploaded it on her Instagram account on July 12, stating, “During the Miss Kansas pageant, my path took an unexpected turn when someone I had been trying to move past attempted to disturb my tranquility.”
But as the recent nursing school graduate explained, she didn’t let that stop her.
In the face of adversity, I refused to be silenced. Instead, I embraced the opportunity to bring my ideal world to life. I seized control, not only for my own sake, but for my aspirations and for those who were looking up to me.
The pageant winner is prepared to utilize her personal experience, resources, and tools to put an end to harmful relationships.
She continued, “Though I’m not tall in height, within me resides great strength, determination, and power. It is my aspiration that by embracing these qualities, I may encourage others to do the same.”
And Alexis’ empowering message struck a chord with her fans, who flooded her comments with praise.
“I’m proud of you for sharing your experience as a survivor of domestic violence on Instagram. I intend to support and assist other women in similar situations.”
A person responded, “Your bravery today represents every woman. Appreciation for your strength. I’m sorry for your experience and grateful for your voice.”
Alexis shared how personally important it was for her to advocate for victims of relationship violence. This issue resonated with her deeply because she and some family members have endured such experiences.
In an interview with KSN News on July 18, she shared that every female member of her family has experienced the harmful effects of domestic violence.
Alexis recognized a chance to make a difference “in uplifting women” during her tenure with the Miss Kansas Organization. She’s thrilled about her new role as Miss Kansas, seeing herself as someone who once benefited from empowerment, and is now committed to returning the favor by serving her community.
She expressed that an essential aspect of her work involves serving the community and making a positive impact, not just personally but also collectively. She’s eager to discuss her social initiatives and plans to expand their reach on a grand scale.
