In the fifth season, there’s been a significant change in Miss Scarlet and the Duke – the title character, the Duke, is no longer present, so the show is now simply titled “Miss Scarlet.
As a movie enthusiast, I’d like to share an update about the cast change in our favorite series. Previously, we followed Stuart Martin as the main character, but now, Tom Durant-Pritchard steps into the role of Inspector Alexander Blake, bringing a fresh perspective to the storyline.
As a movie enthusiast, I must admit that I shared the collective anticipation for the show’s continuation. Interestingly, Masterpiece was equally eager to let the story unfold, focusing on Eliza this time around. However, despite carrying the mantle of Miss Scarlet, the series still feels like an ensemble production at its core.
She added: “Without the Duke present, it opens up an opportunity for all these other plotlines to take center stage.
The focus of the show isn’t solely on Eliza’s relationship with the Duke, but rather on Eliza and her surroundings. I believe it’s from this perspective that the show truly shines, potentially, as we delve deeper.
In essence, the interaction was rather silent. However, it’s likely that numerous discussions took place privately. Ultimately, what transpired was an incredibly smart plan by both Rachel and Ben, which I believe is remarkably effective.
After being informed that I’d be conducting a screen test alongside some talented actors, possibly including one portraying Blake – the newcomer taking on the role of the main character and potentially my romantic interest. It was then that I encountered Tom for the first time.

In his own words, Durant-Pritchard praised the returning cast members as being “extremely warm and a joy to collaborate with.” He also shared some significant insights into his character’s history and background.
He mentioned that Blake, a former military officer, had been the top detective in Bristol beforehand. Following Wellington’s departure, he assumed his position at Scotland Yard.
“He’s a guy who does everything by the book. He’s a single dad raising a daughter by himself.
Moreover, he’s an individual who prefers not to collaborate with private investigators. Consequently, when he encounters Miss Scarlet, there’s a lingering sense of friction between them during the entire series.
He believes he can accomplish tasks more effectively alone, but Eliza swiftly demonstrates to him that their collaboration leads to better results.
Later on, Phillips clarified that Eliza’s connection with Alexander contrasts from her bond with the Duke. He pointed out that since they have been acquainted since their childhood, their relationship in episode 1, season 1 might hint at a subtle rivalry and an unspoken affection that remains unexplored throughout.
She went on to say: “They’ve been acquainted since their rebellious teenage years, which seems to influence their grown-up interactions. On the other hand, Eliza and Alexander first met as adults, and I believe Eliza can act immature at times, but I sense they aspire for a mature relationship.
The outcome remains to be seen, but in my opinion, it holds greater promise due to higher mutual expectations. This setup seems to provide room for personal growth and inspire each other towards maturity in expressing their emotions and feelings.
Additionally, there seemed to be a lack of true respect between William and Eliza, possibly due to their extensive knowledge about each other. This doesn’t imply that the Duke and Eliza couldn’t have made things work, but rather, they may have faced challenges that were too great given their shared past.
