Mitchell and Webb Return for Hilarious New Sketch Show

Channel 4 revealed that comedians David Mitchell and Robert Webb are coming back to the network with a fresh comedy sketch series, aiming to match the significant success of their previous hit sitcom, Peep Show.

The as-yet-unnamed six-episode series will reunite the renowned comedy pair, with additional famous faces joining them for the first time in the production.

Mitchell and Webb will be working alongside a talented group of actors, writers, and comedians, such as Kiell Smith-Bynoe from Ghosts, comic artist Lara Ricote, Stevie Martin known for Taskmaster, and stand-up comedian and writer Krystal Evans.

They will also be joined by team of established and upcoming comic writers.

Regarding the sketch show, the summary hints at a daring comeback of British sketch comedy, featuring a unique blending of comedic talents from different generations.

Upon hearing about the new sketch show, Channel 4 proposed to us, I found myself taken aback, puzzled, yet eagerly ready for the opportunity.

This could be rephrased as: “Given how challenging the current times are for the industry, we’re optimistic that reviving the most complex type of comedy might prove to be an ingenious move in defying expectations.

And we’re assured that unlike a modern-day character risking on the edge of a digital cliff, we’re not here to deliver the fatal blow to the 21st century British television comedy scene.

Excited to collaborate with our exceptionally talented, yet young ensemble in our upcoming project! We kindly invite everyone to pay close attention during commercial breaks and give their best effort to support us by making a purchase.

“It doesn’t have to be a car but, you know, a box of chocolates or an app or something.”

The production of this series will be a joint effort between That Mitchell & Webb Company, in partnership with Big Talk Studios (known for Friday Night Dinner and Ludwig), an affiliate of ITV Studios, as well as Gareth Edwards, who has previously received a BAFTA Award.

Regarding the launch of this series, Charlie Perkins, the chief of comedy at Channel 4, expressed enthusiasm: “Sketch comedy is making a comeback! It’s such an honor for us to collaborate with David, Robert, and their peers, as well as a talented group of emerging voices – both in front of and behind the camera.

Comedy sketch shows have traditionally served as a launchpad for countless comedians and writers, providing them with their initial opportunities to shine, and Channel 4 has consistently played a pivotal role in this sphere.

Creating this show has been an exhilarating and delightful experience, and we’re eager for the public to share in that joy with us.

Besides each member of the freshly unveiled cast, Stevie Martin expressed: “I began creating online sketches thinking I’d never perform on real TV comedy – yet here I am, performing on actual TV with the very people who inspired me to become a sketch comedian? It’s completely mind-blowing.

Moreover, they’ve been equally enjoyable and gracious to collaborate with. To add, David exhibited great kindness when I expressed my appreciation for his series Luther.

As a movie enthusiast, I feel like joining this project with comedy icons Mitchell & Webb is equivalent to finally getting invited to sit at the adults’ table that I’ve been eagerly waiting to be part of for ages. But then, I realize these ‘adults’ are just as hilarious, silly, and they even let me have a taste of Advocaat!

“I’m really excited to be a part of this long-awaited return of comedy royalty.”
