MLS Star Marco Angulo Dead at 22 One Month After Car Crash

As a lifestyle expert with a deep passion for sports and a soft spot for young talent, I am deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Marco Angulo. At just 22 years old, his life was cut short far too soon, leaving behind a grieving family, teammates, and fans who admired his skill on the field and his kindness off it.

The soccer world is mourning a rising star.

22-year-old footballer Marco Angulo, from FC Cincinnati, tragically passed away on November 11 due to injuries sustained in a car accident in Ecuador last month. The soccer team officially confirmed the news.

FC Cincinnati expressed their profound sorrow on Instagram on November 12, over the tragic passing of Marco. More than just a soccer player, he was a loving husband and father, a cherished brother and son, an admired friend and teammate. His presence always brought warmth and kindness wherever he went, filling every space he stepped into with joy.

The organization expressed their sorrow, as they acknowledge that Marco is leaves behind his wife and little boy. They also conveyed, “Our whole community is deeply affected by this sad event, and our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this difficult time.

Marco, hailing originally from Esmeraldas, Ecuador, was involved in a road accident involving a Ford Explorer in which he and three companions were traveling. As per a report by Ecuador’s El Universo (translated from Spanish), this vehicle collided with a metal framework.

After the October 7th incident, it was reported that Marco had a decompressive craniectomy performed to alleviate the pressure in his skull. Additionally, he experienced a lung injury severe enough to necessitate the insertion of a chest tube for treatment.

Besides Marco, it was also reported by El Universo that two more individuals who were part of the accident have tragically passed away – Roberto Cabezas Simisterra and Víctor Charcopa Nazareno, each at the age of 22.

As a dedicated follower, I proudly joined FC Cincinnati back in January 2023 and played alongside them throughout the 2023 season. The league took notice of our success, acknowledging in their condolence message that I had been instrumental in helping us secure the Supporters’ Shield – a testament to our outstanding regular season performance. In March, however, I was temporarily loaned to Liga Deportiva Universitaria (LDU) Quinto, an esteemed professional football club based in Ecuador.

Additionally, LDU posted a message on Instagram following Marco’s passing, expressing their deep sympathy towards his family and close friends in these difficult times. [Translated from Spanish]

They said, “His leaving behind will create a lasting void that deeply affects us.

In a separate video tribute to Marco, the team wrote, “You will always be in our hearts, dear friend. Fly high, Marco.”
