As a lifelong Disney enthusiast who grew up with the magical tales of Polynesia and its brave heroines, I can hardly contain my excitement for Moana 2! Having witnessed the enchanting original film that stirred the hearts of millions, I find myself eagerly anticipating the new adventure that awaits our beloved characters.

Due to the tremendous success of the first movie, it’s expected that Moana 2 will be one of the most anticipated films this holiday season. To build excitement among fans, Disney is releasing a line of merchandise based on the film. Leading the way are Funko Pops featuring characters Moana and Maui, played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho. However, a new character named Simea, who is Moana’s younger sister and portrayed by Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda, will make her debut in the film. In line with her role as Moana’s little companion, Simea’s character will also be available in Pop figure form as a mini version of her older sister. Additionally, a keychain version of Moana will be released.

Starting on Monday, September 30th at 6 AM Pacific Time/ 9 PM Eastern Time, you can place pre-orders for the initial wave of Pop figures inspired by Moana 2. These will be available here at Entertainment Earth ($7.95 shipping fee or free for orders over $99) and on Amazon. Besides Funko Pops, expect new Moana dolls from American Girl, Moana’s Adventure Canoe and Moana’s Island Fun LEGO sets, among other items, to be released later this fall. What is Moana 2 About?

Originally planned as a series for streaming on Disney+, Moana 2 underwent a smart change of direction towards a theatrical release as its narrative grew in scale and grandeur. The film is now set to hit the big screen on November 27th. The official summary goes:

In a thrilling sequel to the enchanting animated musical “Moana 2,” voiced by Auli’i Cravalho as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as Maui, we find ourselves three years later embarking on an expansive new odyssey with a motley group of sailors. This time around, Moana is summoned by her ancestral navigators through an unexpected call, leading her to the distant oceans of Oceania and perilous, forgotten waters for a journey unlike any she’s known before. Directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller, “Moana 2” is produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino. The film boasts music from Grammy winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, nominee Opetaia Foa’i, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina. Jared Bush and Miller are the writers, with Jennifer Lee, Bush, and Johnson serving as executive producers.

In addition to the returning stars Rachel House (Grandma Tala from Moana), Temuera Morrison (Chief Tui, Moana’s father) and Nicole Scherzinger (Sina, Moana’s mother), the movie also brings Hual?lai Chung, David Fane, and Rose Matafeo as voices for new characters Moni, Kele, and Loto who join Moana’s crew. Awhimai Fraser voices the enigmatic Matangi, Gerald Ramsey plays Tautai Vasa, an ancestor of Moana, and Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda lends her voice to Simea, Moana’s affectionate and charming little sister.
